CR reports on MPG

Consumer Reports here:

http://www.consumerreports.org/main/conten...D=1126120002193

reports that if you run a MPG test not using the same procedure as

the EPA specifies for the test, you get different results.

Anyway, here were the "CR Realworld" tests for Cadillacs:

Shown as: model -- year -- EPA CR

Cadillac CTS Upscale car 2003 city: 18 13 highway: 26 28 overall: 21 20

Cadillac CTS -V Sports/sporty car 2004 city: 16 11 highway: 25 27 overall: 19 17

Cadillac DeVille Luxury car 2000 city: 17 12 highway: 28 29 overall: 21 19

Cadillac SRX Midsized SUV 2004 city: 15 11 highway: 20 24 overall: 17 16

Cadillac STS Luxury car 2005 city: 17 12 highway: 24 26 overall 20 18

So overall, I guess I should have expected 21 mpg for a 3.2L CTS, and

CR tested it out as 20 mpg.

For the 2000 Deville, they measured 12 city and 29 highway, for 19 mpg overall.

Again, not a big difference in mpg between the 3.6L V6 and the 4.6L V8.

Ok; I don't feel shortchanged, but that's me.

What in the heck were they doing to return a dismal TWELVE mpg in the city? As hard as I've EVER driven my SLS (same drivetrain and final drive ratio), I've never had as low as 12 mpg, even when I lived in the mountains!

It really depends of the city. Let say I'm driving in New York City and someone drives in Robbinsville, NJ. There are a big difference...

That is what I like about my 94 Concours. I have a big car that gets 20-21 MPG avg.. I could not justify buying a small car for a few more MPG.

First turn the A/C on max, turn the rear defrost on full and all four heated seats to HI... Open all the windows, and the roof. Fill the trunk with five sets of golf bags. And 10 bags of cement. Put 4 250-300 pounders linebackers in the seats... deflate the tires to 15PSI...

Now with your left foot pressing the brake petal 1/2 way, you know for safety reasons. WOT it every chance you get.

Of course the ride will be a little jerky and the brakes will wear out in 1000 miles but this gives them a reason to give one of those black circle thingies on ride and brake life!

I love Consumer Reports...
