Your Next Car

It would be fun to know what your next car purchase could be, in light of skyrocketing fuel costs, combined with the cost and complexity of owning aging Cadillacs.

I plan on keeping my 99 STS for 2 or 3 years, and then investigating the depreciated cost of an 04 ( only in Canada ) STS or perhaps a CTS. I have faith in these cars, even with high miles.

When I load up the miles, I keep a 4cyl Accord handy. I always plan on keeping a luxury car parked in front of my house, I just cut down on my mileage.

So, do you plan on getting another Caddy, a different luxury car, a hybrid, or a gas mizer for your next purchase?

Newer Eldorado or newer STS, 97+ Camaro/Firebird (either has to have t-tops) or a Jeep TJ, . Those are the only cars/truck that really appeal to me. Gas Shmash, just have to make cut backs in other places. Driving and working on cars is my hobby/life.

If I ever get rid of my '97 SLS, I'll probably get into a 2000+ Seville. I prefer the styling of the 92-97 generation, but if the time finally comes, finding a low mileage example will probably be hard. Plus, I recognize the improvements made on the newer models. I'd like to find a 2000+ with the Bose 4.0 audio and sunroof. STS/SLS, doesn't matter to me. I suppose I prefer an SLS, because I like that 3.11 final drive.

But that's probably a long way off.

Well guys along with my 03 Deville (that I never get to drive) I have a

gas hog 04 chevy xcab 2500 4x4 for towing and snowplowing.

I also have a old Ford escort winter rat for mpg and winter beater

duty.

I bought my 16 yo. a MINT lo mile 98 Cavilier from a old timer.

The kid just can't get the hang of driving a stick and I am afraid

hes gonna tear out the tranny or clutch aka $$$$$$ !

My 20 yo is still a college bum and his 96 cavilier is a road warrior!

Its got about 130k miles on it and getting close to needing $pendy

repairs................

So i guess with the price of gas now the 16 yo can have my escort

and the 20 yo can have the 98 and go back to Fla.

The 96 will go down the road......................

I am currently on the hunt for another Caddy for a winter rat !

Found a sweet 93 deville 82k miles. Original owner. garage kept

needs nothing, Not a scratch in or out...............$3000 bucks

Been looking for 3 weeks and this is the nicest I have seen.

There is a 96 Eldo 66k miles for $5500 firm also.............

Sure will be SWEET rollin' in a sharp Caddy instead of that beater

escort.....................

I just got a job making decent dollars, so I am saving up all winter to buy a 95 or so, LT1 Trans Am with a 6 speed! If I have enough money I would really like to supercharge it, and do some other performance upgrades! Im pretty sure i am gonna keep my STS for the winter time and any long trips. If I can come up with the money next fall I would also like to get a bike, then I can drive around without having to think about gas! So hopefully this time next year I will have a Cadillac STS, Pontiac TransAm and maybe a Suzuki GSX-R 600!

I really miss my Allante...

Next car in three years will be an XLR that is just about to go off of factory warranty. I hope they deprecate like Caddy's and not Corvettes!

I plan to drive my present Eldo for another three years, more or less, and sell it before it turns over 200,000 miles. I will probably replace it with a very clean 2000+/- Eldorado.

Looking out even further, I really like the XLR but I would also strongly consider the new Mercedes SL500. The Mercedes is, to my eye, the best looking pop top roadster around (both with the top up and down). I am disappointed that the XLR isn't selling better and am concerned with parts availability 10 years from now. On the other hand, I am not at all comfortable with the potential cost and headaches of maintaining a 10 year old Mercedes. The good thing is that I've got several years to figure it out.

As for the cost of gas, I'll try to take it in stride. I enjoy my cars and will probably always have one I enjoy driving. Nice cars always cost more to drive than ordinary ones. That's the trade-off!

$3000 for a '93 SDV is a great deal in my opinion! I looked at a '93 SDV a couple of months ago and it had 150,000 miles on it and the asking price was $4900....way overpriced.

Forget about my other to replies about the CTS or Corvette, So ill just put the money that i got from 2000 STS and the money my uncle gave me for the denali in a 2 year saving bond then on my 20th birthday ill buy a 04 XLR. I figure within the next 2 years I will be able to find a XLR for around 40-45k. now all I have to hope for is that my 2000 DTS and 98 STS holds up for another 2 years (I think they will LoL)

I can honestly say, it will be a Cadillac!

I have gone the other route, and being miserable seeing other Caddy's on the road every day.

Never again will I switch.

95canadianSTS and I tried a little milage project.

We both agreed not to go over 90kms an hour for one week.

WELL, at a steady 32mpg, I don't see any other car getting that kind of milage. My 94 Deville got 27mpg, so HOW can you complain?

I looked into the new Nissans, and they are only getting 27mpg on the highway, and 18mpg in the city

Why would anyone comprimise to less quality in a car, for less milage?

Well after much research, test driving, and deliberation, my wife is driving her new business car. The pre-requisites were:

1) Had to be a convertible, with exceptional top down comfort and ease of deployment (this top will be down 80% of the time weather permitting, which is often in NorCal)

2) Had to have enough trunk space (with the top down) to hold one/two medium suitcases and a laptop bag.

3) Comfort/style (interior ergonomics a big plus) remember, a significant amount of time will be spent behind the wheel.

4) Good gas mileage

5) Good safety record

6) Good reliability history

7) **Important** she needs to be happy with it..

The decision was made.. it’s a 2005 Audi A-4 turbo cabriolet, Caribic blue with a dark blue top and platinum leather interior.

With the APR stage one (TT) program it has 209 hp/245lbs trqe …at the wheels. Add that, the Tiptronic six speed trans and it goes like it has afterburners and still gets 27mpg around town, and 35 mpg on the long trips, which is the majority of the use. On weekends, if we want to take a ride down the coast to Monterey/Carmel (Laguna Seca!) there’s plenty of room for the both of us and our luggage. That was the real deciding factor. None of the Convertibles in this class (this side of $100,000) had a trunk when the top was down that would hold any luggage. Believe me, we tried them all, even the XLR. You MIGHT get a briefcase in there with the top down. Too bad, but that’s they way it is.

Interesting phone call I got this afternoon. The Audi is going in for it’s 5K service tomorrow, and the sales manager offered to buy the A-4 Cab back tomorrow for more than we paid for it. Looks like that model is in such short supply and high demand that if I said yes, it would be sold before I drove onto the premises. He offered to put me in, or order any model of my choice for just a little over their cost. My answer was thanks but no thanks, my wife just likes the thing too much.. ;)

'93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast.

KEVIN.................The old guy hemmed and hawed at my $3000 offer.

He has had the car advertised for weeks at $3500 with NO bites.

He bought a new LeSabre and won't tell me what the dealer offered him

for a trade in tho..............

But he did leave me a few messages on my machine today so I think he

will take the $3k.............

Really NO hurry cuz the kid headed back to Fla. with the 98 so I have

the 96 to drive or my truck, gto, fleetwood,or triumph...................

Sometimes the ol' lady lets me drive the 03...........LOL!

It IS in really nice shape and I would like to avoid a 96 or newer Caddy

because of NYs new emission test on 96 and up requirement.

because of NYs new emission test on 96 and up requirement.

what new requirement. I just got mine inspected and it was a cake walk.... They checked for codes and that was that! They did not check my emissions, basically if there were no codes it was ok... End of story... on my 96, what do you know that I don't know..

From what I understand that change was that they hooked it up to a code reader and if there were no codes it passed..

SCOTTY.....................I guess they are supposed to put

the "snifter" in the tail pipe 96 and up.....................

That 93 I am looking at has a new shiny 06 inspection sticker

on it so no worries for a year!

I do know that its a automatic failure if the SES light is on.

I want to avoid the N-star engine also. Those 4.5/4.9s are

screamers but require prem. fuel also. But less complicated.

My 90 ran like a scalded dog and it was a puny 180 hp. !
