Goodbye BMW, hello Cadillac!

A buddy of mine 'Dave' is a mortgage broker in town, and it’s important to him to have a little nicer than average ride…Before the BMW 740i was a high end Lexus. He said that was a good car, but a little too conservative for his taste. He traded in that lease on the 2005 BMW 740i, in late 2004. BIG mistake, according to Dave. He said by far the BMW has been a major headache from day one. Nothing but problems to the point where it’s the worst car he has ever had, and will never have another BMW.

He’s (as of Saturday) driving a new 2005 STS N* “Sport” series, in ‘Moonstone’ a color I have not seen until yesterday when he came by. Really cool color, kind of a dark blue/gray. He gave this a lot of thought, and is really impressed so far. I’d like to think I had something to do with this.. ;)

The new bimmers also lack a conventional dip stick. You can check your oil from the NAV system and that's cool, but it still needs a dip stick. BMW has always had flashy, but cheap electronics. I was shopping for a 3 before I decided on an STS, besides being a better car for the money, I didn't find a single one where the DIC didn't work, or there were electrical prblems. Lots of mid 90's bimmers had sections of displays out, faulty codes, or god know what. They are great cars, but for the money, c' mon.

I ALways Liked Bimmers but I have no desire to own one, we have only had 4 bimmers(87 3series, 88 5series, 99 750il, 97 850ci) 2 Mercedes benz (95 S600 and 98 SL500) and 1 Lexus (dont remeber which model but it was just another piece of of overpriced japanese garbage) from what i could remeber until my father made the switch to cadillac and hasnt bought anything since expect for his 1990 Ferrari 348tb that he picked up about 2 and a half years ago. I dont know what it is but Bimmers,Mercedes and Lexus dont appeal to me With the exception of the BMW 6 Series, Lexus LS430 and Mercedes S class , But i will always stay loyal to my brand of choice which is and always will be CADILLAC (Only 18 and already addicted)

I think one of the most beautiful sedans in the world is the previous generation 7-series. Like a 2000 or thereabouts. Certainly not the hideous Banglized garbage they're putting out today. If BMWs were halfway reliable, I'd like to own one, but I just couldn't trust one.

I actually had a pair of BMW’s, from 1974-1985. A 1972 2002Tii and a 1972 3.0 CSI. They were both fun, fast, great handling reliable cars. I put almost 300,000 miles on the 2002Tii. I did the valve guides at 200,000 and that was about it.

IMO, the 3.0 CSI is one of the best looking cars ever built.
