Fuel shortage in Canada?

Recommended Posts

I’ve got Speedchannel on right now as I’m putzing around, and at the beginning of the televised ALM race it was said that the race has been cut from two hours 45 minutes, to two hours 15 minutes. This is due to a fuel shortage up in Canada…..Hmm..

They went on the say that the ALM officials said that this is an isolated incident. For the next two (and last) races of the series back in the states they don’t anticipate a replay of this problem…we hope.. <_<

There will be supply shortfalls until the infrastructure along the Gulf coast is repaired.

There are refineries and storage facilities on the Gulf coast that are flooded and there is no electricity for the pumps at the Gulf end of the pipelines.

Just under 50% of the US refining / storage / pumping capacity is on the Gulf coast.

I understand that there will be potential fuel shortage due to the Gulf’s dilemma, but racing fuel is pre-refined for specific uses. I’m wondering what happened in Canada that would affect their supply of reserved racing fuel. They officials are saying that this is an “isolated” incident and will not reoccur in the next and last race in the US, but the fact that the final race is the “Petit Lemans” at Road Atlanta the last weekend of this month makes me wonder..
