MIke D
So my 93 sts is getting too expensive to fix. It's at that point of puting more money into some problems will not stop some of the other from becomming bigger. So I need to rely on your experience and in most cases expertice on what to do next. I love the big V8 power and feel of the STS, Would like the fuel economy of a V6. But can I get both? I am wondering about the CTS now. It's closer to my price range but I dont know If I should just make more concessions in my life to afford the STS. I am not apposed to buying used. Actually it's more what I am looking for. SO here are my Questions. 1. Does the 255hp CTS come in all years or is it just the 2005 model? 2. Are there some things I want to avoid in the 2003 model that were fixed in 2004? 3. Would a 2000 or 2002 STS be a better buy? (all things considered) 4. What is the average Gas mileage of the CTS's and the 2000 ish STS's. Any other questions I should be asking? Please any advice on this would be Greatly appreciated. She can last a few more months but after that I am just going to have to move on it. Thanks in advance Mike D Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
Bruce Nunnally
1. Does the 255hp CTS come in all years or is it just the 2005 model? 2003 had 3.2L V6 with 220hp 2004 had 3.6L V6 with 255hp or 3.2L V6 with 220hp or 5.7L V8 with 400hp (V) 2005 had 3.6L V6 with 255hp or 2.8L V6 with 210hp or 5.7L V8 with 400hp (V) 2. Are there some things I want to avoid in the 2003 model that were fixed in 2004? The 255hp 3.6L DOHC VVT engine is only available in 2004. This engine transformed the CTS to me. 210hp - 220 hp in the 3694 lb CTS is similar to say the 92 STS 4.9L which weighed 3721 lbs and had 200 hp. You can get a 6speed manual in the 2005 CTS if you prefer. 3. Would a 2000 or 2002 STS be a better buy? (all things considered) I like the CTS since it is 400 lbs or so lighter than the 00+ STS, and has similar performance (0-60 in 6.4s-6.6sec). The STS has more luxury accessories, more wood trim. For the same money, I would prefer a new car over a used car. The 00 STS from a private party would not cost near the cost of a new CTS though. 4. What is the average Gas mileage of the CTS's and the 2000 ish STS's. CTS 3.6L is EPA rated 18/27, so about the same as the STS. My CTS highway mpg at 75mph is around 25.x mpg. My 96STS on the same trip was 22.x-23.x mpg. So to me, the CTS has been somewhat more economical on fuel. CTS's can be optioned up to cost over $40K easily. I only shop for the CTS + 3.6L engine + automatic, in the colors I want, and try to get the negotiated price under $30K. JasonA
I love the big V8 power and feel of the STS, Would like the fuel economy of a V6. But can I get both? Buy an SLS and get both. Northstar power and most owners here, myself included, report 20 city and 30 highway for mpg. Can't beat that with a stick, especially on something that goes like stink if you really want to. tjtjwdad
I've got as good as 31 MPG from my STS (HWY) but that's due mainly to driving habits (steady speeds etc ...). Jim

OynxSTS
I'd go for the '98-04 STS in a heartbeat. IMO the best looking car GM ever made. In the STS series the best of the bunch is the '03 if you like a "Sporty Ride" the Magna Shocks are "FRIM"... Otherwise go for an early '02 with the Nav Package... Awesome cars...destined to be a classic... I forgot to mention that if you drive anywhere where it snows... the front drive N*s have some amazing traction Easin' down the highway in a new Cadillac, I had a fine fox in front, I had three more in the back ZZTOP, I'm Bad I'm Nationwide Greg
MIke D
I had my 93 up in cleveland last winter and you are right they are great in the snow... I forgot the newer sts can run on 89 octane... that might sway it in my opinion. If the CTS is not that much better on the gas mileage with the 6 in it... Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
CadiKing
... I forgot the newer sts can run on 89 octane... that might sway it in my opinion. If the CTS is not that much better on the gas mileage with the 6 in it... Mike, I thought the newer STS's run on 87 octane. Regular. Oh and by the way... BUY THE STS, WHILE YOU STILL CAN! You'll be able to regret buying the CTS later on...when it's too late to find that STS that you deserve! Think about it. Drive both with WOT's and tell me the CTS even compares to that NORHTSTAR! Please, at least do that to realize what you're missing IF you do buy the CTS. Good luck!
