kevinrea
I went out today to take my 97 eldorado up to about 140mph and see how it does. well, to my surprise.., some dummy put a speed limiter on at about 115mph. How the heck do I get rid of that thing.. What do I have to do, go back to my mercedes that doesn't have such silly things ? kevin
ero1220
every one comes from the factory electronically limited to the speed rating on the tires. Check out the sticker on the side of the driver's door to see what the speed rating of your car is. Of course, this speed limitation is set electronically, and can be reset if you know someone at the dealer. Or so I have heard.
MAC
I believe since your Eldorado has (On-Board Diagnostics) OBD-II your speed limiter can only be overridden by reprogramming the PCM. On 1995 and earlier models the speed limiter can be overridden with a chip.
Bob D
You'd have to put 'Z' rated tires on your car, then find a dealer that will change the speed limit through the OBD II. You'll also need a VIN # from an Eldo that had 'Z' rated tires from the factory for the reprogram to work. It's encrypted, so ther's no way you can do it yourself. These days of lawyers and injury lawsuits, good luck on finding a dealer that will assume the risk for you. '93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast.
