Why a Caddy???

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, what was it that made you buy a Cadillac? A few of us were having a cofee the other night, and a gentleman came up to us, told us that he had just moved to Canada from Dublin Ireland, and had never seen a Caddy before :o . He was quite amazed at the styling and options that were in our cars. This got me to thinking, why do people buy Caddy's? Is it the styling, Simply the name CADILLAC, the power, the options, ect...

For me, its a few things

1. the styling and lines of the pre 98 STS cant be beat, you can pick one out a mile away.

2. the power, and the fact that the powertrain is bulletproof.

3. The way it handles, taking corners like its on rails.

Although I love EVERYTHING about my Caddy,( the comfy seats, the BOSE stereo, *smurf* warmers), the three things above are what I consider the main reasons for having bought one. Dont get me wrong, when people ask me what i drive , i quite enjoy telling them I drive a Cadillac . :D

Just wondering what it was that made you buy yours!

well first off I own a 92 seville sts, Im 19 and wanted an sts since the first time I seen one, I like the looks of all them, but the seville just stands out. The main factor im my buying it was 1) its red- reds my fav color, 2) its a caddy- they have a reputation -style, performance, etc. and 3) its just plain cool!, plus its red, nd has leather and *smurf* warmers, haha

Being 6'7" and 400lbs helped me decide this one! LOL

As well it is the only car that will handle my lead foot!

It's more likely he was from Zimbabwe. My Irish cousins come here to OWN their first Cadillac!

P.S. Of course, he *might* have been a Protestant. :D:D:rolleyes:

I will confirm this!

I was there when this guys jaw was on the ground, asking us what kind of cars we were driving.

We were parked side by side!

Big Jay,

That's heartwarming, but I'm involved in a BIG circle of the expatriates here; related to several, for better or worse. While they keep telling me I speek funny, they ALL aspire to Cadillacness.

At first, the price! I could pay the same for a Cadillac as a Mercedes, but the Cadillac is 10 years newer. Then I enjoyed the bells and wistles on the Cadillac. Now I find that the car is made well, has good materials, and does what I ask very well. Mercedes will do all that to but with a harsher ride and more expensive.

The 92-97 Seville styling can't be beat to this day. The Northstar engine is awesome. The reliability is excellent. The waterborne paint system sparkes even after a decade old. These cars are just plain wonderful.

One reason ... simply put, the best used car value available anywhere.

Thanks to enormous depreciation, I have owned 4 Cadillacs, total cumulative purchase price of $41000cdn, total list price of $220,000.

The cars hold up wonderfully, every option continues to work, and people assume my 99 is a new car. I look forward to reaching for the keys everday, as I did with my 89,95, and 97. Other cars have been simply appliances for me, but the style and luxury of the STS inspires passion.

To be honest i always like cadillac but never thought i would buy one, I had Licoln LSV8(Worst car ever) but i didnt want it anymore, i stopped at the local BMW dealership and they had a 1995 BMW 850CSI. I have always wanted that car since my father bought my mother it as a birthday present in 1997(Was stolen in 1998). This cars a monster 5.4l V12 now when i actually drove it i didnt want it anymore it was just to tight for me, So i drove off and went to another dealership where they had a Cadillac Eldorado I had no intention to buy it but i test drove it anyway, after driving for a block of so the salesmen said Give it a little gas you dont have to drive it like a "Grandma". So i gave the gas and i knew this was going to be my car, for one I Personally think Cadillac is th best car for a teen like myself, 300HP,Leather interior, Luxury and its a coupe what more can you ask for?. i drove the eldo for a while and decided to trade it in for the 2000 STS that i have now, a couple months after i bought my STS my father gave me his 98 STS beucase he bought the 05 STS-V8

This is easy for me, my parents we entertainers and needed big comfortable cars and gravitated toward Cadillac so as a kid we had:

54 Packard Carabean

55 Fleetwood

59 Sedan De Ville

62 Calais

64 Coupe de Ville

65 Seden De Ville

66 Sedan De Ville

I had

66 Coupe Convertible

68 Coupe Convertible

74 Eldo Convertible

91 Seville

96 Deville

Having been mechanically inclined all my life, Cadillac/GM is such a logical method of building a car, Ford has odd mechanicals, Chrysler to me is edgy and unrefined, Japanese cars I can't get my head into at all.. I like GM/Cadillac's innovations, gadgets and power. To think that our 55 had the "magic eye" is amazing! The magic bar radio station changing, climate control, power vent windows, power seats, rear AC, power locks, turn signals on the front fenders, when I was a kid the gadgets were amazing. Needless to say, I am locked in as a Caddy Lover.

This salesman knows his work for sure :lol::lol:

When I saw STS in 97 on a street I was so impressed with styling that I start dreaming about that car. I remember that I go out on a street on my coffe break just to see my future car on a street again, cause I knew I will buy it. So I bought 94 STS in 98 with 47K on it.

My choice was obvious: the best used car for the money. I called it very reliable untill I got transmission problem ( $2000) which happend recently and car has only 70k. I can't say that transmission is bulletproof now. But other side, I never had any problems before, just some small issues which I repaired myself. I like the car and I think if something major happened I'd better buy it with 10 years old car with 90-115k for $3,500 than anything else.

Due to an unfortunate incident which necessitated the surgical removal of 2 of my cervical discs - due to herniations - I ended up on the "hunt" for the safest, biggest, most comfortable car that I could afford (on my surgeon's recommendation, fer chrissakes!!!). His take on my condition was that if I ever get rear-ended, I could very well become a quadriplegic(sp?). Therefore, my options were either a Caddy or a Lincoln. Anything non-american never even entered my mind.

And I hate Fords,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I got hooked on Cadillacs when I was 13 or 14. We had an old 64' Coupe deVille on the property where we lived. My Dad took it in trade for some work he did. I was fascinated with the tail fins B) (64' was the last year) and all of the gadgets (power windows, locks, autotronic eye, twilight sentinel, etc...) I knew I'd have to have one (or more) when I became an adult.

I have always wanted a Caddy. I always loved the '70s Deville's. Big monster cars, with big monster motors. I actually became hooked, with the early '80s Eldorado and Seville's. Well it iook 21 years of driving, to finally aquire my dream. I chose my Seville for a few reasons. Price was a major factor. I am guessing that a Seville SLS, new, in 2002, stickered for about $44,000. I bought mine, with 50,040 miles, in Nov 2004, for $19,500. Depreciation is a wondeful thing, as long as you are the buyer. Also the comfort of the seats is absolutely amazing. I have driven in many "luxury" cars, but the Caddy's seats are by far, the most comfortable. Then there was the styling. That goes without saying. Last was the power of the engine. I had been out of the loop with Cadillac for a long time, and was unaware, of how powerful the Northstar was. After test driving the car, I was definitely signing on the dotted line. I had always heard of the Northstar's reliability, and that was a major factor for me. I am hearing of head gasket problems, only after I bought the car. I do not know how many Northstar's have been put on the road, but I am pretty sure, that there are more with over 200,000 miles, than there have been head gasket troubles. I love this car.

I'm 21 years old and when people see me in my White Diamon STS their jaws drop. One time this girl was walking with my through the parking lot and I couldn't find my car. I said, "It's a white car." When she saw it, excuse the language, but she looked like she creamed her pants, lol. Then she sat in it b/c she wanted to talk to me about some dumb girl thing and I could not get her to get out of the car for anything. Keep in mind she was on her 15 min. break. I got out and checked the oil. Then got out and checked the transmission fluid, nothing. She would not leave.

I still have about 2 and a half years of School left before I graduate as a Petroleum Engineer and when I was told about the STS for sell I thought to myself... If I did not get this car now it would be a looooong time before I would ever get an STS, IF I ever got one.

I bought it. Now, I'm hooked. My girl wants a car and I'll be damned if she doesn't buy an STS.

OH!!! And when I graduate from the University of Texas in about 3 years... my gift to myself will be a 2005 STS (V8, of course)! It's what I aspire to.

My Sophie is my motivation to what I will become, God willing. She's my little sneak preview of good living.

Some people say I only bought a Cadillac just for the name. While that is some what true I still paid less for my Cadillac then they paid for their 1993 honda Civic hatchback, My 93 Cadillac has more advanced technology and a ton of other things that a brand new Civic still doesn't have.... So really I get 4x the car they do for the same price! Here is my top ten reason's I bought a Cadillac STS.

1.It is a "Cadillac" No one can say anything bad about Cadillac and everyone likes them!

2.Cadillacs are like the biggest sleepers, people who dont know anything, think they are grampa cars, until they experiance what its like to go up against a N*! Burnin ricers is my favorite pass time.

3.The STS is a rare car in these parts and thats a big thing to me!

4.Alot of people still think I paid over 10 grand for my car, and Im not tellin them otherwise. I only paid like 4 CDN!

5.All the stares and jealous looks you get when driving!

6.The leather seats and all the advanced options!

7.The "Northstar", I didn't know much about them until I started researching Cadillacs!

8.The Cadillac reputation!

9.The Styling is nothing short magnificent!

10.All the extras that come with owning a Caddy.

I could go on for a lot longer, but anymore then 10 just seems wrong. B)

If I read it correctly, she was in the FRONT seat, as opposed to the rear seat.

Through most of the 90's, I drove either a Blazer or a Suburban, due to it's carrying capacity and all - new homeowner, golf buddies with smaller cars, etc...then around '01 when the Sub outlived it's usefullness (ex got the house..lol) and was a *smurf* to drive empty (42 gallon tank) I started looking for something else. I wanted luxury, comfort, and some giddyup - even with the Tonawanda 454, the Suburban was not what you'd call "quick".. :)

I looked at new Grand Marquis', Continentals and such, and just kind of stumbleld across the '99 Deville at a big tent sale by a local dealer. I took a ride in it, and was hooked. Loved the comfort, quiet, power, etc. I was also fairly impressed with the build quality. But then again, coming out of a Suburban, what did I know?

Had the '99 for almost 4 years. Thanks to the extended warranty, it didn't cost me much out of pocket at all.

In Oct 04 bought a 02 Deville for my g/f to drive, since we both hated her Jeep Cherokee. Bought it with 80K miles, it now has 113K - she drives a LOT for her job, and the boss pays for her gas, which is nice.

I traded the 99 Deville in for my current '01 Eldo ETC and love it to death.
