Left from Right

Which is the right side of a motor on a front wwheel drive. The front side or the back side agains the fire wall? I know this is a stupid question but....

Left - right is traditionally determined from the driver's seat. In a vehicle with the engine mounted in the standard old configuration, the rear of the engine would be the flywheel or flexplate.

Applying that carry-over terminology to a transverse mounted Cadillac, looking under the hood from over the LF fender you will be at the flexplate end of the engine. And the right bank is the firewall side.
