I have a 99 sts It drives fine, no steam from exhaust , I think it has combustion leaking itto the cooling system It takes about an hour to start to overheat while driving on highway but not at idle. I took it to caddy to get it cheacked out he said it was the heads two of the sparkplugs have a little cooked coolant on them.he said it was going to cost !!!!!!!!!!!!! $3,500 !!!!!!!!!!! to repair so there it is Please give me your input!!!!! Thanks :( Guys!!!!!

NO, they can not be retorqued, you might even make it worse and pull threads. Who diagnosed the problem? Was a compression test done? Was the cooling system pressurized to see if it leaks down? You can purchase a test kit to see if you have combustion gases in your coolant at NAPA.

Before I jump to conclusions I would do those tests, check the water pump belt and tensioner, change the thermostat. I would call and ask the mechanics at cadillac what other tests they did besides looking at the spark plugs? Mike

I would like to see a pix of "cooked coolant" on the spark plugs.

Many things to be checked before you buy into this $3,500 diagnosis; water pump, water pump belt, belt tensioner, and the list goes on....

This would not be the first time an overheat situation was misdiagnosed as head gaskets. Have the cylinder pressure test done to BE SURE. As Scotty said, retorqueing is not an option.

Cooked coolant? Doubt it. Get another opinion. Local dealer here has a rep for telling whoppers but the outfit there is vying for top honors.

As was stated, check the water pump belt and the tensioner that keeps it tight.

before you buy into any stealership hookie dookie.
