bigjayzway
Anyone have a set of these around? I need a set, as the STS I just baught has 225/60/16, and it is the wrong size for the car. I am not working at the moment so the less $ the better. Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
JasonA
What condition are the 225/60s in? The car will hardly know about the size change, they're so close. If the 225/60s are good, I'd definitely keep them on until worn out. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" ted tcb
Jay, I agree with jadcock, keep your tires. On my 99 STS, the 235's had an imbalance and I hated the 65mph vibration. I put on my virtually new 225's with no vibration issue, and I feel that I'm ahead of the game. Now, living in cottage country, I got caught on the highway today with low fuel ... how does $1.15 per litre for 91 octane grab you? I'm in line with the rich cottagers and their SUV's, pissed off at the Friday afternoon gouging. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
bigjayzway
Hey thanks guys. I just figured it called for 235, so I should have them on. Gas prices are high here too. $1.09 for 91. Time for more drive offs! LOL Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
JasonA
To tell you the truth, I think you'll get better mileage with the 225s vs. the 235s. For example only, Michelin Symmetry: 225/60/16: 26.8" tall, 9.4" wide on 7" rims 235/60/16: 27.2" tall, 9.6" wide on 7" rims The 235s are slightly taller and slightly wider (duh). But with that comes increased wind resistance (from the wider profile), increased road friction (same), and increased rotational mass (taller/heavier). It seems trivial up front, but over time, that WILL affect your fuel mileage. Your speedometer will read slightly too fast with the shorter tires...but only slightly...probably not enough to overcome any error that might be there already anyway. We're talking a 1.4% error here. Or, if you're traveling an indicated 70 mph, you're actually going 68.97 mph. That's close enough to not even worry about. FWIW, our resident guru has stated before that one of the reasons a '98 STS is going to be a bit slower than a '97 STS, besides the increased weight, is the increased friction from the larger 235/60 tires. So it affects acceleration performance as well as fuel mileage. "Time for more drive offs! LOL" Little must the thieves realize, that just makes the price go higher, costing us ALL in the long run...and not just in our own pockets. They did a news story the other night that it's costing one local precinct over $100,000 MORE each year to operate just because of fuel prices. They're encouraging officers to carpool to crime scenes if possible, and to stop the engine when at idle, if possible. Not only do higher prices empty our own wallets, but they flush our tax dollars right down the drain. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" bigjayzway
Maybe someone should tell the cops out here! They will go into Tim Hortons for their 2 hour lunch and leave the cruisers running outside. It really pisses me off, why do this? I wish that I could just reach inside and shut them off, but they are locked! The worst part is they hand out tickets for the idling law we have here, and they are the worst for it! JasonA
Sounds like you need to start taking the numbers off the cruisers and write letters to your local sheriff or jurisdictional authority. JasonA
In my opinion, if you're going to get new tires anyway, you might as well get the correct size. If I bought one used, and it happened to have 225s vs. 235s, I wouldn't go out of my way to replace them, until they've worn out or got damaged, etc. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
