Phillip
Well I am almost finished with my front bearing problem and now I am diagnosing an annoying squeak in the rear suspension. The shocks seem OK but the rear end squeaks when it bounces. I used a stethescope and it sounded loudest in the lower control arm. It sure sounds like the rubber bushings squeaking. Has anyone had any luck diagnosing this type of noise. I am thinking of squirting soapy water or silicone on the rubber to see if it will quiet down. I am open to any other suggestions. Scotty
I would squirt one bushing at a time till I determined which one is causing the noise, give what ever you use time to penetrate. I would be reluctant to use a petroleum based product as it tends to swell rubber. There are a bunch of bushings and possibly 6, here is the rear suspension from the manual for a 96 Deville Bushings Lower Control Arm (2) Knuckle (2) maybe (3) Trailing Arm? (1) maybe (2)
Scotty
Here is a recent photo from my spring and stabilizer bar bushing job. I circled the bushings I am aware off
Northstar
My car did this on passenger side and it was the bushing at bolt 22. Try losening or tightening bolt 22 a little bit, thats what fixed mine. I tried to put WD-40 and other things to quiet it down and the noise always came back. Regis
Phillip, Here's a link to another discussion that may help. Make sure to read the other 2 discussions linked there. A worn knuckle can cause more problems then just a squeek or a creak.
