winterset
I thought it would be funny to jot down what I believe were the most mis-understood, & most discussed topics going back some time. here go's. Hope I don't offend anyone, or pour salt into open wounds - especially #6 here go's - Dave's top ten misunderstood beliefs about cadillac ownership/maintenance 10 Buy a ricer - they never breakdown & are cheaper to repair 9 Disable a sensor warning message when it gets annoying 8 Check oil in a N* only when cold & keep topping it off 7 Have my tranny flushed at one of those chains 6 N* engineers are bozos 5 Never WOT N*'s as they are delicate machines & should be treated as such 4 Go buy a OBD-II scan tool as modern cadillacs don't provide enough ways to diagnose without one (fan up & warmer what??) 3 The oil life monitor is useless, & I should change the oil every 3000 like the "old days". 2 Bars-leak always go in the overflow tank better yet, skip it. 1 Timeserting is a waste of time and $$ -enjoy
Brad
A new twist to the board! I like it and as a longtime reader this list is pretty accurate!! Scotty
No you are not offending anyone, but if this is not a joke, you are highly uninformed highly. If this is a truth is jest scenario and its the way you actually feel, buy the ricer. I am still trying to decifer your third post, rather than present your cars problems as complaints why don't you try to remedy them? You present these issues like there is no remedy or like you need to live with them. For instance IF you are in fact topping off, NO WONDER you have smoking going on, PLUS the car SAT for a long time and the engine NEEDED to burn off oil that leaked down, NS's do tend to leak oil, and it sounds like yours did. If you don't do your own work, are not technically adept, or you are not into tinkering, buying a ricer probably is the way to go. I have a list of work that I have done to my 96 that would blow you away! I get the feeling that you are not technically adept as a result of not being able to remove the sensor and because you have your third warranty on a 96 with 95K on it. Good for you, but not so good for your wallet, what does that set you back a year, Ill bet its quite a bit. So let me get this straight, with a warranty you are paying for the repairs in advance is that what it is? (assuming you can coerce them into fixing it and then fixing it right?) You see I would rather put that money in the bank and pay for the repairs as I need them, I was never a belt and suspenders guy. If you need help, there are many here that would love to help you, if you make the attempt at conveying a need rather than rambling on like you did in your 3rd post. For instance, I would tell you immediately to get the Mobil 1 out of it and put in a 10W30, but thats me... You probably feel as others do that if you pay more for the Mobil 1 every 3,000 miles, its a good thing. Marketing its a beautiful thing...Barnum was right.. I myself have a 96 Deville that I absolutely love and that I put a lot of work into. Having owned a 91 240SX at one time, there is no comparison, oh yea it ran like mad, but it was a white knuckle deathtrap, and physically fell apart and did not survive small accidents well at all. God Forbid, I was ever in a BIG accident with it So this is your 4th post, what is it that you are trying to accomplish? And no I am not offended. There is a LOT of valuable information here and a LOT of talented people here if you need help. Many of the issues that you regurgitated in your third post CAN be explained and remedied if you take the time to explore.
winterset
Mike, This makes 5. & of course I was joking. NO I am happy to say I am not topping off. As in my list, that was discussed a while back as something NOT to do. My "rambling" was for a reason, and you helped me answer one. I never had a car sit for more than a few weeks. I feel more comfortable that probably nothing overheated, and as you say, it could have just been leaked oil burning off. I purchased this car when I got married, and since have 3 kids. I unfortunately do alot of business travel, and my wife depended on the car. I liked the original warranty that offered a loaner car etc. , and my 2 extended warranty's the same. Warranty was $1400 for 3 years and I am still covered another 20k. I used already for 2 tows, new fuel pump, and water pump, and rear wheel bearing all at about 94k mi. long story, and I was happy, also I had a free rental from Avis while it was being repaired. I drove the Deville down to FL from NY with the then 2 kids in '01, and I felt better knowing I had coverage. It's a matter of convenience. If there is a problem with the oil pump, or something, I'll use the warranty again, but, one has to be smart about things, as I don't want to pay to have a sensor replaced. That particular task is withinin my comfort zone of a task that I can accomplish. I'm not hiding anything I get by only on "light duty repairs" that can add up big $$. I would have never thought to go the route that was suggested to me in my query, and I will try it when I'm home this weekend. I also plan on posting some pics soon. Again, since owning this car, there have only been only a few light duty repairs/maintenance items - belt, brakes, battery (cleaned the terminals & washers),rear rotors, and now the oil sensors. I feel I have a well built car Also I wanted to add that I think the fuel pump failure was my fault. I used to use alot of fuel injector cleaners & stuff in the tank. BUT from reading these posts, it's not recommended, so I listen, and now add nothing but gas. That Mobile 1 thing is probably next now. JimD
I thought it would be funny to jot down what I believe were the most mis-understood, & most discussed topics..... The list could easily be expanded to a number much higher than 10. But then we would need a committee (or focus group) to rank them, and we all know how cost / time-efficient committees can be. This reader enjoyed the humor. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !

Everyone looses their mind once in a while! Robertson apoligized yesterday...but I noticed some egg on his face (along with mine )... Imagine suggesting an assination, talk about loosing it I don't think I was that bad was I? Hey, out of 4000+ posts this has to happen once in a while! I have read this over and over and STILL can not see it as funny... maybe I have no sense of humor or it excapes me... I do know what it was however, I always look back in history to see what a person has posted before, especially if it appears to be a rabblerouser. In this case I saw the multitude of problems/complaints in his third post and then this post... in my simple mind I saw this as sarcastic nothing more. I am too serious at times for sure... Winderset, knew this had the potential of setting someone off when he wrote "Hope I don't offend anyone, or pour salt into open wounds - especially #6". (which I addressed on a separate thread ) Push his button and watch him go! Deep down inside however, I am still hurting from the recent loss of a huge resource. Scotty
Other topic..... Anyone fill up lately? I have been stopping at $30.00 so I visit the gas station often If you have not read this paragraph about Leadership, from an old Cadillac owner's manual, read this. Its so true, I especially like, "Jealousy does not protrude its forked tongue at the artist who produces a commonplace painting". "Whatsoever you write, or paint, or play, or sing, or build, no one willstrive to surpass, or to slander you, unless your work be stamped with the seal of genius." "Failing to equal or excel, the follower seeks to depreciate and to destroy, but only confirms once more the superiority of that which he strives to supplant."
