Poobah
For about the last six months, my '94 Eldo has been making an occasional clunk that sounds like it's coming from the right front suspension. It's a single, very solid sounding clunk like a frame or suspension part rather than a tinny sound like a body part. It happens most often when I accelerate smartly from a stop. Once in a while, it happens when the suspension flexes while the wheels are turned sharply to the left, especially when backing up. When I had it the car serviced recently, I had my mechanic check all the frame and suspension bolts. He says they are all tight and nothing is likely to fall off but the clunking sound is annoying and I'd like to get it stopped. About 26,000 miles ago I had the struts and sway bar bushings and links replaced, all with OEM parts. Does anybody have any ideas about what might be causing this? Thanks in advance, Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
Scotty
When they replaced the struts did they replace the strut mounts? You want to look over the strut rod bushings, if they are bad they will allow the lower control arm to move fore and aft on acceleration and braking and possibly make noise, see #4 in the picture below
etcxtc
I had a very similar problem on my 98' Deville. I put the car up on ramps and crawled under for a little look-see. I found the right rear cradle bolt had backed itself out over half way allowing the cradle to flex when turning. I tightened it back up to specs and haven't had the problem since.
