tomcad95
On occasions when the car was hot and restarted in a short period, I experienced slow cranking but the car did start. Now there is no cranking or clicking at the starter and it seems like I have full power on all of my other accessories. I have cleaned connections and also tried running a ground cable from the negative battey terminal to the starter bolt to no avail. Could the saftey neutral switch be bad and does it show the symptoms of slow cranking when hot before it goes all-togeter?
JimD
.... Could the saftey neutral switch be bad and does it show the symptoms of slow cranking when hot before it goes all-togeter? No. Sounds like it's time to rebuild or replace the starter. Hot engine + heat soaked starter with bad bushings will do what you described. But one other check is required; before you descend on the starter, have your battery load-tested. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! You can bypass the neutral safety switch as well as starter enable relay routing a jumper to solenoid's positive terminal. Looks like your problem is the motor itself. Did you try to start with gas pedal floored to enter clear flood mode. Did you check the FPR for leakage? It looks like the situation got even worse after you cleaned the electical conections and put new jumpers? Really strange... BTW, starting a new thread will confuse those who try to follow the situation... The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
tomcad95
There is no cranking at this point, If the FRP was leaking or if there was a motor issue I still should get some kind of cranking? Are you suggesting to run a 4 gauge jumper from the batteries positive terminal to the solenoid, will a direct connection like that do any damage. No, it will not make any damage, I have had that jumper for three years. But notice you will loose some safety features like neutral safety. The reason I had it was the bad solenoid. The fact you had cranking begore modification and lost it now is strange to say least. Please double check all your connections for wrong placement. tomcad95
There are two wires going to the positive terminal at the solenoid, one is the power from the battery, do you know what the other one is for. And the S terminal on the solenoid, is that the connection for the ignition switch?

adallak
The battey, starter and alternator checked out okay. BTW, how old is the battery? Despite it checked good, it can be just too weak to start hot engine... If it is a few years old I would rather replace the battery than the starter. At least it would not be waste of money since you would get a newer battery anyway. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

tomcad95
I decided to drop the starter again and re-clean and re-check all the connections, which looked fine to begin with. I then decided to bring the starter to another store that had a tester. When the starter was first hooked-up it passed the test a couple of times. On the third or fourth time it went completely dead, just like in the car. I replaced the starter and everything is good so far. Thanks for everyone's input.
