FlamingGoatBalls
So when my headlights and fog lamps are turned off my left side light turns on. You know,...the one that sort of wraps around the side of the car. There is a clear part of the lamp and a amber part and only the clear part is lit. Anyway when I turn on the fog lamps the wrap around light on the right side wont light up. I dont think the bulbs are burnt out because when I turn on the right blinker it seems to work. I dont know if you guys follow me but in a nutsheel what im saying is that the clear bulb on the left side is always lit even when the lights are off and the same bulb on the opposite side wont lite. Help.
MAC
How about the turn signal switch inside the steering column. If the side bulb eventually blows altogether then I would be real suspicious about the turn signal switch.
canadian95sts
sounds like a short in the wiring harness or switch. is anything else affected?? FlamingGoatBalls
Ok so I noticed that the light that is on on the left is the light that illuminates the side while turning. Its always on now. Also...MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN SMOKING....perhaps related? Maybe maybe?

Oldgamer
That looks tipical for bad grounds. Plus, possible short between two cuircuts. I reccomend to check grounds at first. Turn on light, then measure voltage of a ground. It should be zero and it should not change when you turn on/off.
MAC
Smoking steering column indicates the turn signal switch. Right before I had to replace my turn signal switch white wisps of smoke would come from the steering column. In my case the left side light wouldn’t light at all. After replacing the switch everything was back to normal.
FlamingGoatBalls
what did that cost you? And yes...same thing..ehite wisps of smoke from the column.
navion
If you try to replace the turn signal switch, read ALL of the instructions on deactivating the air bags. Those things can kill you if you are close enough to it & set it off! If you are not comfortable messing with explosives (sodium azide & a detonator) then I would suggest that you find a reputable shop to do this type of repair. You can still save some money by buying the switch from Brasington or GM Parts. Britt Britt
Scotty
That is so true, the manual has warnings everywhere
Matt
it is so true about those air-bags. I'v seen the after effects on friends who have had the air bags go off. There was a busted thumb, road rash burns on wrists and a friend of a friend that did not have the seat belt on and had a badly brused face. So if your going to play with the steering wheel ( be Aware ) and be safe..
MAC
I bought the switch from a Cadillac dealer for $45.21, which was less expensive than the inferior Napa switch. The part No. for you switch is ACDelco Part No. D6241A. You can confirm the part number at: http://www.acdelco.com/index.html Here is a post showing the defective Napa part: http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=1858&hl
FlamingGoatBalls
Im actually more comfortable with my hands on explsoves than under the hood of a cadillac. We had a kid where I go to school hook up his newsensors and re fuse his system BEFORE putting the airbag in, he did that last, and long story short broken nose. Anyone have the procedure for this,...replacing the switch that is,..not breaking your nose. I already know how to do that.

MAC
Disabling the SIR System 1. Turn ignition switch ‘OFF.’ 2. Remove SIR fuse A11 from engine compartment fuse panel 3. Remove two screws and two nuts securing left-side sound insulator (panel under steering column) 4. Remove sound insulator 5. Remove connector position assurance (CPA) (pull out the plastic CPA from the harness) and yellow two-way connector at the base of the steering column Removing Inflator Module (Airbag) 1. Once the airbag is disarmed remove the four screws which secure the airbag to the steering wheel. They are behind the steering wheel. 2. Disconnect CPA and then SIR coil assembly lead. The airbag can then be carefully removed. CAUTION: Always carry inflator module with the trim cover away from body. Always place inflator module on bench with trim cover up away from loose objects. Removing Steering Wheel 1. Remove steering wheel lock nut 2. Use a steering wheel puller (such as Lisle, Steering Wheel Puller, Product # 45000, which can be purchased at PepBoys). Accessing Turn Signal Switch Assembly 1. Use a steering wheel lock plate tool (such as Lisle, Steering Wheel Lock Plate Tool, Product # 57340, which can be purchased at PepBoys) to depress lock plate a slight amount to allow the snap ring to be removed. 2. Remove the snap ring with a snap ring pliers 3. Follow instructions provided on lock plate container for removing lock plate Removing Turn Signal Switch Assembly 1. Remove screws securing switch assembly in column 2. Remove multi-function lever (turn signal lever) 3. Remove hazard signal switch 4.
