67coupedeville
Now as you may or may not know, I bought that 1995 Eldorado with a bunk tranny. Now I searched the codes and the P056 comes up. Input Speed Sensor inside the tranny, I've got that much. Now if that sensor goes bad and I unhook the battery and reset the computer, will that clear the code? I have done this a number of times and still only have 2nd gear and reverse. If that sensor is bad, and I reset the PCM by unhooking the battery, would the sensor throw the code as soon as I hook up the battery again and always go into 2nd gear right off the bat and stay like that? As always input is always appreciated. Spence
TDK
67, The following was on of the various post resulting from a search on PO56 (30-days and older): http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...ic=3075&hl=po56 The tranny is protecting itself going into second. Soem described it as an intermittant problem. This was described as a $20 part but a $2,000 job to replace it. One possible easy fix noted was to check the blower wire and spark plug wire routings for possible electrical signal interferance. Another post noted that it might clear for a bit after it is driven hard to heat it up and change the speed pickup's clearances? (be carefull with that one...) Good Luck Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.

Good Luck That spark plug wire interferance could be it. Whoever put wires on it last time sure made a hell of a mess under there. I did however drive te S*** out of it when I picked it up from the farm. Had quite the cold carbon rap when I was idling it, does not do anything of the sort now . PAUL T
A high powered CB radio signal can also set the P056 code. As far as the shifting problem that sounds like the shift solenoids. A P056 will only make it shift hard.

As far as the shifting problem that sounds like the shift solenoids. A P056 will only make it shift hard. No CB radio in there, and I only have 2nd gear all of the time. You put it into drive or any of the other gears and it only clunks into 2 and stays there. Would a bad sensor ALWAYS hold it in second? PAUL T
My shift solenoids only made my car stay in second. I had a P029 and a P094 for the shift solenoids, I changed them and no more problems. The only thing I notice when the P056 shows up is just hard shifting. I have had the intermittent P056 for 3 years now and I have never had it stick in second.
