2006 CTS notes

Recommended Posts

Interesting that all three sizes of tires for the 2006 CTS packages are 225mm wide. Not +1 sizes as you might expect:

Package // name // invoice // MSRP

Y42 Sport Pkg 1,361.20 1,640.00

(N/A w/Wheel Performance Pkg-YA3)

Includes

Limited Slip Rear Axle,

HID Headlamps,

StabiliTrak,

Sport Suspension,

(4) P225/50WR17 BSW Tires & Mirror Polished Aluminum Wheels.

Y43 Wheel Performance Pkg • Models w/3.6L Engine 1,896.55 2,285.00

(N/A Models w/2.8L Engine)

(N/A w/Sport Pkg-YA2)

Includes

Limited Slip Rear Axle,

Performance Brakes,

HID Headlamps,

StabiliTrak,

Performance Tuned Suspension,

Tire Pressure Monitor,

(4) P225/50WR18 Performance Tires & 9-Spoke Polished Alloy Wheels.

Seems like a very good deal on the Sport Package, considering HID and Stabilitrak and wheel upgrade and speed limiter and limited slip differential for $1,361-1,640. Would be more exciting with 245 tire than 225 tires though?

The 'wheel' package has the tire pressure monitors which are nice,

and "performance brakes" (not sure if that is pads or bigger rotors

or ?) otherwise seem pricey in comparison?

Here are the specs/sizes on the tires/wheels alone; the first one is the base tire/wheel combo:

TIRES

QWJ (4) P225/55HR16 BSW

QWW (4) P225/50WR17 BSW (Available & Included Only w/Sport Pkg-YA2)

QGQ (4) P225/50WR18 Performance • Models w/3.6L Engine Std. Std.

(N/A Models w/2.8L Engine) (Available & Included Only w/Wheel Performance Pkg-YA3)

Seems like the cost of a base CTS w/3.6L Auto tranny & XMS radio has gone up slightly, now hitting $35,080 MSRP vs the 2005 CTS w/3.6L Auto tranny & XMS radio $34,660 MSRP, for a $420 increase.

Bruce,

It is easy for me to understand why wider tires might not be used.

However, I agree that it seems odd that the same car can be ordered with apparently different tire heights.

I suppose that the speedometer/computer can be Tech2'ed for any given tire height, but it still seems to be a bit unusual.

Does your car's manual mention any how to account for different tire heights?

What about the CTS-V?

Thanks :)

Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.
