What wax to use?

Recommended Posts

I am going to be waxing the STS this weekend , and am contimplating which wax to use. I usually use McGuires, but im wondering if there is a specific wax out there that will really make the Diamond White paint glisten.

Who better to ask than my CADDY BROTHERS from other mothers!lol

This topic has been discussed until we've all gone blue in the face....LOL

Have you tried to use the site search?

Personally, on my caddy I use Zymol products http://www.zymol.com

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

This has been discussed a lot, but we're always up for another discussion! :)

The Wax Shop. Super Glaze. http://www.thewaxshop.com/superglaze.asp It's the only thing I use. It goes on smooth and buffs off easy. No white powdery residue, just a clean car.

Yes this discussion is probably 2nd or 3rd in popularity only to oil and or tires. You'll find all you need as well as all you didn't need in the archives. I've been using Zymol for years and turtle wax's Express Shine inbetween the zymol. I just started adding the Express Shine last year and I like the results.

Since we're on the "shine" issue I'd like to ask what others are putting on their tires. Personally I'm not a big fan of the high shine look when it comes to my tires. Whatever shine product I'm trying (the list is long) I always find myself buffing the snot out of the tires to achieve the semi-gloss natural look. I've thought about buffing in bees wax and seeing how that looks. But I realize that most probably prefer the high gloss look. ;):)

I've only found one product readily available that specifically states that it's not petroleum-based, and that's Teflon Tire Shine. I really like it, although it does have a pretty deep shine. After a few days of being on the tire, it mellows out.

Michelin has a new tire dressing, that's supposed to be available at Auto Zone, but I haven't seen it there yet. I plan to try that as soon as I see it on the shelves.

I had been a fan of Meguiars for some time but found their Gold Class to look great the first day, but had no staying power.

I recently used the Mothers 1,2,3 system of cleaner, then glaze/sealer, followed by the pure carnuba paste wax. My Eldo looks awesome. I'm waiting to see how long the shine lasts.

Good Luck, Alan

I am also a fan of The Wax Shop product line. It just doesn't get any easier than using the Super Glaze that they produce. Once a year I wheel my car out with various 3M compounds (depending on oxydation, water spots, etc.) and hit it with The Super Glaze every 3 months or so and, viola! Perfecto!

Hi Scott! I didn't know anyone else used The Wax Shop's stuff! My dad used it for years when we lived on the left coast, and it seems to be relatively hard to find here out East. I usually get my supply at Pep Boys, though they only carry the Super Glaze last I checked.

I just use meguires NXT The real deal is in the prep I wheel the car with a foam pad with either fine rubbing compound then swirl remover then hand wax so really any wax would give it a good gloss Next time I may try another wax I have not found any wax so far that lasts longer than a fews months tops.. So I have to do this 2 times per year but my cars sit outside all the time.. F'ing black is a pain to keep looking good Every time I buy a black car I swear it's my last black car but so far through the years I have owned 5 of them in black I think this is my last one though..

Shea Butter on the tires is great. Gives them a semi-soft gloss and protects them too.

Jadcock,

We have almost identical cars! Thus the near identical taste! I order my Wax Shop products from Summit Racing, along with alot of other things, (much to the displeasure of my credit card!) They have free shipping and nearly anything you could ever want.

Got my car back today, alternator and oil cooler lines (2) all for $481 installed... not that bad considering.....

Not bad at all, also considering that recently I heard that R&Ring the alternator is a bear of a job, its probably an easier job on a lift..

If the paint is in generaly good condition try Zaino, zaino.com. Polymer based real nice stuff but real expensive. You will love the shine and the car is so darn slick.

I have a black DTS and this stuff is awesome. The best thing though is the fact that I get about half the dust accumulation on the car. It beads water like mad too. It's unbelievable. You can check out my car pictures at My Webpage

Well, I use some stuff that I used to detail with. Although I want to get some Zaino. What I use is DWG. Dry Wash 'N Guard. They claim you can wash your car without water, but I usually wash it with water first. Workes pretty good and very easy to use.

http://waterless-wash.com/

It's more of a MLM scheme but I got out of it. Here's my car. 103,000 miles and the original paint. Impresses me everyday. And it seems that the more I use it the better it looks.

You can even use it on chrome. (They also say glass, but it streaks )

Hey STSJOHN,

I tried Black Magic wet shine. I let it sit for for about an hour. When i tried to buff it off. The wax seemed like it never dried. I had to keep continously rubbing until it finally shined. Are you doing something different? B)

Lol, Never Happened to me. I usually put the wax on the car at about 7 in the morning and by 7:15 the was is all Hazy and ready to be taken off. Dont know what happened did you shake it while you put it on?

Real dumb question???? Any tinted wax for white cars?

It's not a dumb question at all.

Yes Turtle wax makes a white tinted wax, for white cars, and even comes with a scratch filler stick!

I used A Meguiar's 3 Step system today on my car... 1st gets rid of swirls and such, 2nd "feeds" it oil's and such, and then I used my Wax Shop Super Glaze. It looks good, but the 1st step didn't do much, it didn't even get rid of the water marks that were on the car... so I used some "Mopar" (YIKES!) stuff that I got for free, and it did a little nicer job. Overall, 4 long hours, but the car looks the best it ever has. Now I can let it sit in the garage until spring when I will do it all over again!
