When you get on the highway doing 60, reset your average miles per gallon indication and I am sure you will see at least 25 MPG. I average about 19.4 with an average MPH of about 40.... When the average MPH is about 60 I am over 25 MPG.. and more...
Ranger
I agree with Scotty. 18 is very low. I get 23-24 (mostly) highway to and from work. Straight highway on a long trip iI will get an easy 26. Check for a leaky FPR (fuel pressure regulator).

GR8NSTAR
There are a few variables that will affect your gas mileage. Make sure your air filter is clean for starters, use the recommended gas octane per your owners manual, and ofcourse mileage will vary if you drive with your A/C on or off too. I get about 16-17 mpg city and nearly 30 mpg for highway on my 98 deville. About once every oil change I like to add 1 can of BG44K to a tank of gas. This helps clean the injecters. The cost is about $23.00 for a can. It treats up to 20 gallons. I'm sure all will agree here that if you do the preventive maintainance you'll be fine. It won't hurt to run her on a good lil 3-6 hr road trip. Your mileage should definitely improve.

navion
Don't forget tire pressures. Running the tire pressures low will have an adverse effect on your gas mileage. Britt Britt
Ranger
There are a few variables that will affect your gas mileage. Make sure your air filter is clean for starters, use the recommended gas octane per your owners manual I don't want to start another lengthy debate as it is in the archives someplace but, a dirty air filter does not affect fuel milage like it did on a carburated engine. It would have to be almost completely clogged. Octane won't do anything for it either unless you are heavy on the throttle. Then the knock sensor comes into play and retards spark but if you drive like that, you are not much worried about milage anyway.

I said the same thing that a dirty air filter would not hamper gas mileage, I just could not remember if it was gas mileage or roughness nor could I find it in the archives so I erased it... not having the support I needed to make the statement. I had made the same mistake, stating the a dirty air filter would hurt gas mileage and I was chastised by our expert ouch... but he was right as usual and I was learning the NS... Thanks for bringing this up, Mike
Ranger
I wondered why you cleared that message. I think the reason you couldn't find it is because all his posts may have been deleted. What a shame.
