ken's caddy
This is on a 1997 STS. I'm starting to notice when I turn the ignition key to start the car, It take about 1/2 second before I hear the starter. It starts fine and runs fine also. I'm wondering if its my starter, solenoid, or maybe a safety neutral switch going bad. Did anyone ever have this problem?
ken's caddy
This is me again. Is it possible that the battery is getting weak? (bad battery or charging system). My digital display is showing 12.3 volts and 13.3 volts when the car is running. Shouldn't it be around 14.5 volts when it is running?
Scotty
Your voltage sounds good at 13.3, when the car is warm. It should be higher immediately after starting the car. Winter charging rates tend to be higher. I would have my battery checked out (load tested) to make sure there are no dead cells.
poopdeville
Hey there... I do not have an STS but had a similar situation with my old girl here. I found the negative battery lead connection was a bit loose, needed the heat buildup (caused by the bad connection) in order to make the connection to start and then read a low charge as well (due to the bad connection). I fixed the cable connection and all was cured. Low tech solution, I know but my only similar experience. I love low tech solutions to high tech problems... JBuckley
Corrosion on the battery end terminals could also cause this. John John
