Suspension problem

Well here is a picture of the 98 STS.

It is a pic of the pass. side suspension, and the missing link for the sensor!

I will have to try to find one of these linkages, and also try to figure out the problem with the rear sensor!

We looked at it, and seen nothing wrong with the back one.

Yes its no biggie, you may have found your problem, you just need a link from the sensor to the suspension from what I can see, sort of like this (this is a rear however its just for illustration), see #10....I don't see where it connects on the control arm however in your photo do you? Does it appear that you are just missing the rod?

Do you have junk yards near you? The dealer may be able to supply this

Ya the dealer is telling me I have to buy a whole sensor for $400.00.....

No thanks!

No dealers around here have any 98 STS in the yards either!

Can anyone help?

Jay,

Try this link it searches local scrap yards by make model year and the part you need.

According to gmpartsdirect, you need to know exactly what kind of suspension you have. They have six different options there. You need to find your option codes, in the trunk on the bottom of the spare tire cover, bunch of three digit codes

Jay's suspension, on the STS, will probably be FE3 (firm ride). My SLS has FE1 (soft ride). There were only those two that I know of. Maybe the advent of StabiliTrak and other options added more suspension codes.

The dealer won't sell you JUST the link? They're trying to get you to purchase a complete sensor? BS!

Okay....

I fixed the c1761, all I had to do was put the link in, and it was fixed.

However I am still getting the C1763, and I can't see anything wrong with the back sensor! Could the sensor itself be done?

Are these known to go?

The same thing happened to my car. The links for both of my front sensors were "missing." My car was riding very "floaty" down the freeway. When I would hit a bump, it would bounce several times. I took it to the dealer and they first told me that I needed new springs. They were even going to upgrade me to better springs. When they went to do it, they noticed that both links were missing. They replaced the links and the car drove like brand new again! The CVRSS really does work! The dealer was able to replace just the links. I would double check with them.
