bobnsue2
Well I finally got tired of no CD player. It had the common failure symptom of failing to take the CD in or not playing if it did go in. I had gotten a list of three capacitors to replace and most likely fix it. Yesterday I went to Radio Shack and bought them for $3.50. I removed the radio and took it apart all the while thinking it looks like I may end up with a pile of parts. With a magnifying glass, I found the three culprits. no need to pull tge printed circuit out because you can't reallly get to the solder spots under there. So I carefully cut the old ones out and resoldered the new caps to the spots on the board. I managed to get it back together and WOW it works great again! The four amplifiers had the squeeling and dead problems so I went through all four a year and a half ago. It seems that the Japanese capacitors are used beyond their limit and they fail. Or they are just junk and fail anyway. I hope Bose uses better parts in the newer products. Bob B
Scotty
Congratulations. Were you successful in repairing the Bose Amps also?
CaddyChris
hey where did you get that info for the capacitors. Do you have diagrams and stuff. Mine is starting to act up in my 94, I may just replace it but don't want to go through the hassle with all the amped speakers and whatnot. I'd rather just fix it. Do you have any more info? Thanks. bobnsue2
Scotty, Yes all four amps are working great now after replacing several caps on each. It's a bit messy as you have to remove the rubberized goo that is there probably for shockmount. I picked a lot but finally used the pencil tip soldering iron to melt it away. I got the info for the amps here on the list, I thing the guy was in Placerville Ca. cpetro45, I had given the info on the amps to a local shop oldtimer and he was very appreciative. So when I recently stopped in he gave me one of his cards with the three caps for the CD written on it. replace: C610 = 1uf @ 50v C619 = 1uf @ 50v C710 = 22uf @ 16v These were all on the CD board, very hard to see, but the things are numbered and you might need a magnifying glass. I didn't start until I located all three. Bob B

bobnsue2
List meaning this forum. He emailed them to me after I asked. He had stated he figured them out and fixed his own amps. Bob B
CaddyChris
Bob B, Thanks, thats great info to have about the caps. Hey these caps are actually on the board in the front of the car by the cd mechanism correct? Also, I wonder if it has changed since mine is a 94, either way I'll take a look at it. Mike, I sent you a pm. Thanks guys. Chris Christopher Petro 94 sts 67 coupe de Ville
bobnsue2
cpetro45, In my 91 they are inside the radio on a printed circuit board as part of the CD player. Scotty, The bose amp info he sent me was in a *.sit format which is macintosh. I had to download a program to convert them, from Tucows.com. I got a free sample program which did the trick and expired a few weeks later. I can only find the originals so would have to convert them again if I needed them, but it is working fine. awise
For what it is worth, it is my understanding that Bose does not actually make the radio/cd unit. It is sourced from Audiovox. Alan Wise
