On my way home from work I am doing 75 in a 65 mph zone in the left lane keeping up with a pack traffic. Some biker wannabe is tail gating me nowhere for him to go I'm fairly close to the car in front of me This guy is about a foot behind me So this goes on for about 5 miles I'm thinking I should just jam on the park brake and fix his a-- real good but that was just a passing thought. So I merge into the center lane now the guy is on my left real close flipping me the bird. I let it slide and just ignored him but I really could have ruined his day big time. Then he accelerates still flipping me the bird. Now a few mile down the road he motions like he is pointing a pistol at me and pulling the trigger. I thought you DUMB F I have a permit to carry and a gun on my person. So I put my pistol on my lap and just cruise along still ignoring him he eventually did exit before me .It was interesting to say the least.. A bike is no match for a car I'm glad he did not pull a gun I know I would have protected myself and I 'm sure he would have been the loser.. I don't know how I attract these nuts but every now and then I come across one. Heck the guy had a Harley too I would have hated to ruin that bike..

You should have got the plate number and called the cops. The guy was probably high on something like crystal meth. Losers like that need to be removed from society, never mind off the road.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Marika's right on there. If somebody is being dangerous or menacing out there, these days I'll just pull out the cell phone and make a call. I won't even give the guy a glance. I've got nothing to prove, and with some of the jacked up morons out there it's just not worth a confrontation.

I hear ya. It would be best to just make a phone call. Although nothing really happened and I'm really glad it didn't..I have nothing to prove I just don't like to get involved with the BS of police reports etc etc.. but that is far better than making the 6'oclock news..

You were not the first one on his way.. A couple of calls to police would make them to take it seriously...

I have many many friends that ride. I myself used to race motocross in my younger days. I am planning to buy a road bike one day now soon. My friends say and I know they pratice what they preach, that you must have full and total respect for the dangers of the road in order to stay alive. A biker is nothing but a moving target for the blind and moronic that share the road with other wise cautious drivers. As far as that guy is concerned- his days are numbered on the road till he becomes road pizza. He will get his, you can bet on it...

He was a jerk, but you were in the left lane and should have moved over for a faster vehicle. Why didn't you, since he was trying to pass?

He might have been up on your tail for 5 miles because that was the only way to get your attention and he was frustrated. Just because you were going 75 didn't mean a faster vehicle shouldn't be able to pass you.

My simple rule is that if I am being tail gated when in the left lane that means that somebody is trying to get by me, I'm going too slow, so I move over and yield to the faster vehicle; doesn't matter whether a jerk on a cycle or an old lady in a 4 door Buick, I don't want to be a left lane bandit.

No excuse for his hand gestures, etc. of course, but I get upset myself when you see people blocking the left lane figuring they're going "fast enough".

I roger what you're saying. It just annoys the heck out of me when people do that and/or pull out in front of you catch the car they were previously following only to pace the car (in the right lane) preventing one from moving on. Oh, and speed up when/if they clear the car in the right lane.

However when I'm in a pack of cars as JIMDTS implied

On my way home from work I am doing 75 in a 65 mph zone in the left lane keeping up with a pack traffic. Some biker wannabe is tail gating me nowhere for him to go I'm fairly close to the car in front of me

and over taking cars in the right lane then screw em', he/she should have left home sooner. Lack of planning on their time doesn't constitute an emergency on mine. Also, IMO, that's not a left lane bandit. That’s just traffic volume. At 75 MPH Jim could have just as easily got out the gas & down shifted simultaneously, without ever hitting the brakes and that man would gone.

And like you mentioned, when I'm being overtaken I'll move over as quickly as possible.

How about those riders that like to challenge the center line on a two way street against oncoming traffic??? The level of stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Unfortunately most cars swerve to their right when a biker challenges them for the center line..... of course it's only natural. A game of chicken that some bikers like to play. I've been fortunate enough to have been challenged twice and unfortunately for the 2 bikers I'm not natural. So I see the one biker coming at me, deliberately making the move to the center yellow line. I stay in the middle of my lane and casually drift the car onto the yellow line at the last second. What a sight to behold. Like a cat that just had its tail stepped on. Elbows flapping and sunglasses crooked from jerking his head too fast. Hard to look cool after that. It's the sudden simple pleasures in life that make everything better isn't it?:ph34r::lol:

theGman did you not read the whole post?

He stated right in it, he could NOT go anywhere.

2nd that, Jay. With nowhere to go, what is moving over going to get anyone? If I am in the left lane and keeping up with traffic (at whatever speed), I'm not going to move over just because some numbnuts is riding my bumper and having a hissy fit - especially if by moving over, all I'm going to accomplish is slowing myself down and gettin' stuck in the middle lane behind the cars I was in the process of passing - while he/she is now stuck up the *smurf* of the car in front of them!!!

I've ridden (and still own) a 1972 NORTON 750 COMMANDO and for the 10 years when it was my ONLY transportation, I learned the joys of defensive driving. Now that I'm in the '97 DEVILLe, I STILL drive defensively. In fact, I think that everyone who wants a driver's licence should be forced to learn and drive a motorcycle before they can have a car licence. There'd be less carnage on the roads from the bikers and a better understanding of why one should drive defensively, IMHO.

There are only 2 types of bikers out there: the one's who have fallen, and the one's who WILL fall off their iron steeds. The former are real easy to spot - they're not being jerks on the road and they are dressed for the occasion (full set of leathers, steel-toed boots, gloves, helmet). The latter are the one's who think their own skin has as much durability as a cow's and dress accordingly. They also like to zip in and out of traffic, and generally be a turd towards the rest of the drivers out there. For that type, let fate catch up to them, 'cuz it will - sooner rather than later.

Defensive Driving Lesson #1

If someone behind you is acting like a jerk get out of his way ASAP!

If someone behind me wants to get by, regardless of what they are driving I let them... Even if it means that I'm going to get stuck in some traffic for a second... There are too many nuts out there to chance this. I’m more than willing to give up 15 seconds of my life than to chance it.

My mom used to, keep here right foot on the gas and gently press her left foot on the brake and leave it there to turn on the brakes, its amazing how this will back someone off your butt.... They no longer have that comfort zone... I am not suggesting this with all the nuts out there, just commenting on my mom's technique, but she was from Brooklyn!

Now I know why I kepp an amples supply of Ball Bearings and pennies at my disposal at all times

I hear golf balls are pretty effective too, but would never try it myself.

In my opinion, there is a speed limit in situations like this. It may be a LOT higher than what is posted, but it's still there. I am the first to move to the right lane when someone is trying to pass...normally. But when you get into a pack situation, "close quarters driving" type stuff...there is really no point to moving over. In some cases, it can cause more harm than good. All of my attention needs to be focused on the things up ahead in situations like this, not somebody that has a Number 3 sticker with a HALO above it! The guy on the bike needed to get hold of himself and show some patience...not express road rage by flipping the bird.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
