Norton1
I'm at 50,000 on the tranny and am having the dealer change the fluid and filters for me. The guy I talked to said they would flush the system to get all of the particles out as well as change the filters and such. I did a search and could not find the discussion a while back about why one should not have the tranny flushed. Instead just change the drainable fluid and filters. Anyone? Thanks Steve

That is the only procedure that is recommended in the GM service manuals. The only filter in the 4T-80E trans is behind the side cover and that typically requires transmission removal to change it. There is a technique where that filter can be changed without removing the trans. but it is not cheap. You can never be sure that the flush machine is not contaminated with debris from another transmission that has failed... Bob D
Don't flush the transmission. In all cases, there is little in any benefit, and a good deal of risk. '93 STS.. opened, dropped, wide...fast.

bigjayzway
I would definately agree with the NEVER flush. I have seen some mechanics use the same filter too...they will spray the old one out(if it is in good shape) and save you some money. Big Jay Life is too short to grow up! Matt
I wish I would have found this post sooner. I have two friends that found out the hard way not to flush. They have had nothing but problems since. This was a wile ago now but one day the problems went away in both veichles. Then everyting was Ok again. It was the day the veichles were sold.
