JBuckley
Well as you may remember I had no blower function on my 94 STS and I diagnosed a bad connector to the blower motor with all the help and advise from the forum. So I replaced the connector and everthing was copsetic, good cold Air and great blower function for 5 days, got in the car Sunday blower going like crazy but no cold air, I could hear the compressor kicking on and off, as soon as the compressor would kick in it would kick of. Then I got the "ac compressor off message, low refriderant". Which is strange because up to this time I have not had any lessing of the coldness in the system. There are no codes. I mean Saturday night it was working great, get up Sunday and start the car and no AC. Here at the house I only have a cheap low pressure side recharge hose that has a gauge on it for quick level checks, I hooked it up and with the system not on I had 40lb pressure and when the compressor tried to cycle on the pressure would drop to about 14 and when it kicked off it would jump back to 40. I know I need to run by and borrow the good gauges and hook up to both high and low pressure sides, my question is what should I be looking for, it has been forever since I worked on an ac system? Thanks, John John
Scotty
Check for codes, it may be a bad low pressure sensor or connector to that sensor
KHE
It might just need to be topped off. If you have access to a leak detector, leak check the system. You can also do a visual inspection - look for oily/greasy areas on the condenser and lines. Check the compressor clutch face for oily residue. Also check the compressor body for oily residue. DaveC
Does the 94 have R-12 or R-134? R-12 is pretty hard to get now. If yours has R-134 you can put a can in and see what happens. If you dont have a major leak one can should get it going again. Good luck DaveC
Scotty
Sorry I missed that you had no codes and that the compressor was cycling....

Ranger
If it has never been serviced in 11 years it is not uncommon to need a top off as KHE said. I would bet you could easily add a can, maybe two, and be on your way to several more trouble free years.
JBuckley
Well, I was concerened since the compressor was cycling so quickly, and the stupid gauge on the recharge kit looked like it was going into the high area when the compressor cycled off. I am going to stop by and borrow, the good gages from my father in law and double check the high side also., No oily spots that I can see on the condensor and compressor hub. JBuckley
Well hooked the good gauges, and it was low on freon, no obvious signs of a leak, but refilled with leak detector, so if/when it goes low i can pull the old uv bulb out and see what is going on, wish I had one of the snoopers, but I don't know any one I beg, borrow or steal one from.
