Disable Alarm Chime

Can anyone tell me how to disable the alarm chime that rings when I open the door with the keys in the ignition? My car is a 96 Seville SLS.

I suspect it is a module under the dash that can be unplugged. Are there any unpleasant side effects of disabling this annoying chime?

Thanks for any help.

Okay, here I go again, answering questions I don't have the answers for.

DON'T FORGET, this is from a 1995 manual!

It might, however, point you in the direction of the correct 1996 answer. At the least, it will show you how Cadillac has done things in the past.

The "Chime drawing" for the 1995 Eldorado/Seville is two pages in length. You can find the 1995 drawings here:

Hope this helps direct you . . .

Warren

EDIT: In my 1995(!) FSM the Chime Module is located "Behind LH side of I/P, left of steering column." See: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y299/WBucket/Chime3.jpg

I'll give that some thought and continue to research it while I wait for an answer to this: "Why in the world do you want to do this?"

I am watching this string with interest. I have a 96 STS and the security light and chime go off everytime I open the driver door, keys in ignition or not. I find this annoying when I am cleaning the car, but I have never taken the time to disable it. I am with tco43 on this one. I would like to be rid of it.

Why Disable??? Easy.

I like to spend time now and then cleaning the interior, vacuuming the carpets, shining the windows...all that crap... with the radio on for some decent tunes. But that obnoxious DING-DING-DING will drive you NUTS! And I'm already nearly there.

i can relate to this, I always want to listen to the radio when I clean the interior. I would be interested it installing a kill switch in a discrete location for the chimes, so that I could turn it back on after I'm done cleaning my car.

Anyone done this?

I miss my 87 deville....for whatever reason I could put the key in, turn it so the radio would be on, the pull it part way out which would stop the chimes, but keep the radio on. I'm sure it wasn't MEANT to do that, but it sure was nice.
