Oldgamer
Ok, I'm back with update on my transaxle problem. 1. I droped the pan, I didn't see a lot of debris on a bottom. It was a bit, but I think it's normal for 71K milage. Screens weren't too dirty too. 2. Pulled out the lower control plate. Checked solenoids and they looks pretty good. Checked solenoids resistance and they were fine. Didn't fine anything wrong... 3. Checked transaxle pressure switch with a tester. It was fine too. Of course I couldn't check how it works, just checked connections between connector and switches and it was Ok. 4. When I was under the car I found wrench adapter which I droped when I changed my coolant temperature sensor. It was stuck between a frame and two white metall pipes. I pull it out and checked the pipes. They were ok, no damage has been found. 5. Under the car checked bands if they are ok. One of them was too flexible I think, but I'm not sure. May be it should be that way? I made a small video to show how it looks. On that video you can see a bottom pan with some debris, screen and "flexible" band I'm talking about. On a video i'm touching that band and you can see how it moves a bit back and forward. Should it be that way? I thought it should not be so flexible. Other band (I didn't show it on a video) isn't so flexible and I can move just one end. I don't know what should I do next. I'm trying to understand how transmission works and make a diagnose. Now I think that limited pressure or bad seals can lead to simptoms I have. One thing more: I was a bit surprised how much fluid level changes: at morning I didn't see fluid on dipstick at all, and after warming engine enough the fluid level was Ok. Is it normal? http://bronfman.homestead.com/files/TRANSAXLE.mpg Thanks for any help.
TDK
Oldgamer, Interesting video and all but... What kind of tranny problems was the car having? I assume that you already noted any codes etc? Was the tranny fluid changed recently (color, smell of old fluid)? Obviously I'm not much help witheh above questions, but others might need some background info also to assist you. Good Luck Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.
WarrenJ
Ok, I'm back with update on my transaxle problem. A link to your presumed original post would be helpful to those of us that missed it. NOT a pretty video methinks. Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. Oldgamer
Thanks WarrenJ, you're right. I described the problem in http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=6610 I'll try to explain what's going on: Tranny works fine every time I start the engine, then, after 3-5 min it starts to behave like it's in a neutral, doesn't matter of manual shifter position. NO COMPUTER CODES OR ANY WARNINGS. I checked computer data and didn't find any slipage. One thing I found wrong: data PD71 (Transaxle pressure switch) shows gear 2 whatever manual shifter position is (only when fault exists). All other data looks fine to me. Gear ratio data shows 4 always (when transmission works fine or not), but it's possible fine? Sorry for video been not so pretty, it was kinda hard to make it lying under the car and I made it with limited resolution and length to place it on Internet. TDK, Fluid was never changed (94 STS has ~71K). Color wasn't to dark or smell burn. I checked computer code for transmission oil life and it shows 93 (didn't changed from what I set when I changed computer at spring). Any suggestions welcome. MAC
Olgamer, I'm suddenly having similar problems. Recently a P024 (Speed Sensor circuit) code set. It hasn't come back but my speedometer goes nuts and when that happens my trans cuts out and revs. I usually let of the gas but sometimes step on the gas and it catches. Then it will happen again somewhere down the road. This all began when I touched the wire (I believe the Speed Sensor wire?) on the trans when I was removing the pulley off my A/C compressor. Tomorrow I'm going to check that connection and other trans wire connections.
Oldgamer
MAC, your simtoms are different to me. At least you got code and now can use diagnostic trouble tree (see manual). It may be intermittent connection loss or something like this. I'm sure your transaxle is fine.
