Coolant Temperature

Hey Everyone, my 99 Deville coolant temperature range from between 190-220. Highway driving it stay right at 192-194. While in traffic it gets up to 200-220. Being in Florida(TampaBay) our outside temp is mid to upper 90's this time of the year. My question is are these coolant temps where they should be and what readings are considered "getting a little too hot"? Thanks Craig

Your coolant temps are perfect! Don't worry about them! Terrific for Florida!

Don't forget to drain and refill your radiator with fresh Dexcool at 5 years or 50,000 miles if you have not already done so, you are due with TIME... Also use 6 cooling supplement tablets (get from dealer or the brand below) when you put in the new coolant, crush them and put them in the upper hose before you put the coolant in... If the dealer says you don't need them ignore them and buy it anyway.... Do a search here for cooling supplement and pay particular attention to posts by bbobynski on the subject

Thanks everybody I just saw it start to climb the other day in traffic and got worried, I actually turned the heat on full blast to help bring the temp down( it did too).

Turning the A/C off usually allows the engine to warm up more. The A/C locks the cooling fans on, so as long as the A/C is on, the cooling fans are on. When you turn the A/C off, the cooling fans will turn off until the coolant temperature reaches about 225*F (at which point they'll turn on). So...leave the A/C blastin' and don't worry about it! :)
