Matt
I do not have to tell any one its been hot. Gosh its been terrible. The news said we had the highest temps in three years today. I saw 103 today at work. We have no AC at work. A few guys get sick from time to time there. I do not get along well with the heat, the AC has been on for weeks now at home 24Hrs. When I got in the car to come home today the outside temp reading was 107, it sat from 6 am till I left at 4 PM so it was not like the engine compartment was hot near the sensor. It went down to 98 after a few miniuts of driving. What I discovered the last few days is the power locks on the two rear doors began to have a problem unlocking. It was taking a few pushes on the remote button to get them to open yesterday and the day before but today they do not open at all. The locks up front work fine and "all" will lock OK but just the rear doors will not un lock any more. You can just hear a faint click when you push the button. It's supposed to cool down the next few days, I cant wait to see if all starts to work again. I do not tell straingers but I can say it here- I'm a cool weather person! I get along just wonderfull in the cold season months. I'm counting the days guys....
Matt
Well it has cooled down a ton this AM but the rear door lock will not un lock yet with the remote. The fronts work fine and all will lock ok with the remote. Now I'm wondering if the heat did something to them. This is very strange. Could the heat do something??? JasonA
When I got in the car to come home today the outside temp reading was 107, it sat from 6 am till I left at 4 PM so it was not like the engine compartment was hot near the sensor. I've found that the heat radiates up off the pavement (or whatever surface you're parking on) and affects the sensor. Both Tuesday and Wednesday, when I got in the car in the evening to go home, the temperature read 112. After I started it and the fans started pulling air through the radiator/grill area, the temperature quickly dropped down to the actual temperature (104-106). As far as heat and locks, a coworker had a similar problem with his F-150. The power rear sliding window would not work when it was COLD outside, but when it warmed up, it would work. I think it was a problem with the switch. I'd say it's possible for heat to have had an effect on the locks...they are physical soleniods, aren't they? They might get sticky in real hot weather. Matt
Hey Jason, Thanks for the reply. Well it was heaven today compared to yesterdays heat wave. OK on your friends F150, just the opposit with the temps. I spent some time cleaning the car today and then investigating the power locks. Today the right rear door lock started to work again with the remote. It locks and unlocks fine. Now it's just the driver side rear door lock that will only lock but not un lock with the remote, or from the controll switch on my driver door. When I triger the power lock to lock you can hear the soleniod work, but when you triger it to unlock there is no sound at all. What would make it lock but not un lock? It is the same soleniod right? So now I'm thinking a wire ? and since it does the same with the remote and from my controlls on the driver door I'm thinking a wire at the soleniod it self. That may be a good assumeption I hope. I open the rear door all the time to put in my computer bag so now I have to open the driver door and reach in and un lock the rear door. No nice! So do I start planning the disassembly of the rear door? I do not want to but I want it to work. I bet this will be very hard to do. I need to get at the soleniod and check wires and maybe put 12 volts to it and see if it works both ways. That will at least test the soleniod. Hear I go again. KHE
It's possible that the door actuator is binding - the actuator is the latch mounted on the door that interfaces with the large pin. It's attached by three torx bolts and you need to remove the door panel to remove it. The lock solenoid is mounted to the actuator, I believe. Matt
Thank you very much for the info. I am going to look at that right after I pick up my new Palm one Treo 650 in the AM. Now I have a place to start. Thanks...
