bigjayzway
You had your battery tested after you put the new one in? If the new one is weak, then you may want to get your alternator checked. I personally wont run anything but an Interstate, or Delco battery. Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
johnnydone
i had the old delco checked before i bought the new one they said it would still hold a charge but only 75% hence car cranked over slow but fired right up that batt3ry was 4yrs old and i think the heat was taking its toll i had the alternator checked at the same time and was told it was working fine
awise
It was my understanding that there are actually only two battery manufacturers, Johnson Controls and Exide. These two manufacturers private label the batteries for the likes of Sears, Walmart, Delco, MotorCraft, etc.... Sears and the others specify the packaging, and pick the density of construction from a list of options given by Johnson Controls and Exide. Has anyone else heard this? OynxSTS
If you want a cheap Delco battery buy it at Wally World... There are three battery manufactures... here is who makes who: Delphi makes ACDelco and some EverStart (Wal-Mart) models. Exide makes Champion, Exide, Napa, and some EverStart batteries. Johnson Controls makes Diehard (Sears), Duralast (AutoZone), Interstate, Kirkland (Costco), Motorcraft (Ford), and some EverStarts So if you find a battery at Wally World with side terminals and a "green" eye it is probably a Delco... Which is really a Delphi... OynxSTS
i had the old delco checked before i bought the new one they said it would still hold a charge but only 75% hence car cranked over slow but fired right up that batt3ry was 4yrs old and i think the heat was taking its toll i had the alternator checked at the same time and was told it was working fine The next step is to look for a circuit with a short. With a helper and the HEADLIGHTS OFF. Connect an 10Amp Amp meter in series with the negative battery terminal. With the car off (and the Hightlights too, either will blow your multimeter) read the Amp drain. It should be more than 0 but less than 1 most cars will draw 0.1 or so amps to keep the memory on the radio and the clock. If it is more than 1 you have a short. One at a time start pulling fuses until the reading drops to the “0.something” “normal” reading. Once you find the bad circuit your fun starts… Typically shorts are caused by one of four things… 1)A hot wire rubbing against the body until it rubs away the insulation, 2)A solenoid shoring out to ground (they do wear out) 3)A hot wire contacting a hot engine bit and burning away the insulation 4)Anything else including poor repairs, lousy stereo installs, alarms, etc. Fix the short, charge your battery and you should be good to go.
