JIMDTS
Yesterday while driving around I had a message Service Electrical Sys. on the dic and 3 codes set U1016 C1295 P1574 I checked the codes is pointed to the stop lamp and open circuit on the stop lamp I went to the dealer this morning and sure enough the rear stop lamp was bad They changed the stop lamp and it's fine. The old one worked and it appeared to work after I checked the codes I went out and checked the rear lamps they all lit up but the stop lamp was bad and throwing codes..All in all I was out of the dealer in about 1.5 hrs total which I was happy with the quick turnaround time.. darn on board diag. is pretty smart Cheers Jim
Oldgamer
Jim, you saying, the old lamp lits fine, but some how throwing codes? Sounds so strange. Tell me if the code shows you what rear lamp is bad (right or left). My dealer charges $90 per hour, but it should take 10 min to change lamp. How come the did it for 1.5 hours? The lamp itself cost couple bucks and it's pretty easy to change, or I missing something?
JIMDTS
On the 01 deville the rear stop lamp is the led light bar which runs across the top of the rear of the trunk..They have to replace the whole light bar as a unit and inside the trunk their is trim padding to remove to get at the stop lamp assy..So by the time the mechanic gets the parts r/r the unit plus the wait at the servce writer area and getting it into the garage I think 1.5 hours total time was very good..for this I'm sure the stop light assy. costs more than a couple bucks it probably a few hundred bucks for the unit which I'm glad I'm still under warranty..Even though it lit up it was shorted or had a bad led Jim Here's a pic of the stop lamp it's the long wide light above the cadillac emblem
bigjayzway
Last one I priced out was $670.00 Canadian. So thank god for warranty eh? Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
Oldgamer
Sorry Jim, I thought it's just a simple lamp...
JIMDTS
Hi Oldgamer No need to be sorry. Yes these new led setups sure suck. I would rather have a light assy. that has regular bulbs much easier and cheaper for the end user to replace a bulb than a complete unit. Although the newer led setups look much nicer when lit up and are probably safer Anyway,Heck I don't see them it's just for other drivers.
