Why Did You Lose Your Cadillac?

Why did you have to give up your Cadillac? Was it an accident? Hit a deer? Engine blown? Etc.

I realize this poll may not generate as much response it might otherwise, because most people who get rid of their car probably quit posting, but let's hear it anyway...what happened to your car and why'd you have to get rid of it. If you sold it just 'cuz you wanted a different car, post that too.

Well, I know this doesn't belong here but I'l post anyway. I'm proud to report that even though my Northstar blew a rod. I got another engine and she's running strong. I'm afraid to say that, if something else breaks that costs around the same money again, I'm going to have to let her go. I hope that doesn't happen :(

My wife drove it through high water, and it hydro locked, blowing a a hole in #8 piston. My neighbor across the street bought it for $ 500 ('93 STS w/173K miles), and it is in my next door neighbors garage (its still close to Daddy)....

I still love N*(s) and yearn for an ETC...

I lost my 89 Fleetwood due to rotten engine cradle. The brake dust accumulates and rots away the engine supports, then the motor mounts fall off. Quoted 1,200 bucks to weld each side ... regretfully sold a beautiful car.

Sold my 95 STS due to fuel economy and bought a 2001 Corolla. After 1 year of that, I purchased a 97 STS, and nobody's gonna convince me to part with this one!

I havent lost mine yet. However I am considering something different after I get the head gasket repaired. The last car I owned that had a bad head gasket was a 1962 Buick Special V6. Yes it had an alum. engine also.

I'll have to "wait & see" how things go after the repair. I would never have considered a change if I had not had a problem.

Nothing pampers, and spoils you like a CADDY!

You're probably right Jason... Most people who lost or sold their Caddy would't be posting too much afterwards, but I have to still visit and comment occaisionally. I still really enjoy reading posts here, despite losing my Eldorado in the hit & run episode a couple months back.

Man, I sure miss that car. I could really enjoy the Sprucegoose now too, with a new job that gives me a 56 mi. commute one way! :o I never lost a car to an accident before, too bad it had to be that one... :(

I didn't vote since the catagories don't seem to cover my situation but IF I get rid of my Caddy it will be because of the cost of repairing it.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Howyadoin,

When I lost the '93, the tow truck hadn't even come to pick her up before I drove the '96 home!

Got rid of my 1999 STS after just too many annoying issues. For one reason or another it was in the shop at least once every other month during the period that I owned it. All under warranty, but still I got tired of driving loaners.

Before that I had a 1995 STS. I only traded that one in on the '99 because it was time for an upgrade.

I'm now driving a 2003 Jaguar S-type. I really like this car. It's got all the luxury of the Caddy, and, at least in my opinion, looks a lot more distinctive. And so far, it's only been in the shop for normal periodic maintenance, which is FREE.

I still read the caddyinfo.com board from time to time. In my opinion, this is the best auto message board out there.

I've always wanted a Jag-You-Warh. My various friends experiences therewith, however, have scared me off.

NEVER having owned a new vehicle leaves me inexperienced with "FREE periodic maintenance."

There are few things more distinctive than a Caddy.

Of course, you're correct; this is the best auto message board out there!

Many happy miles with the Jag. :D

Warren

The last data from JD Powers shows that Jaguar has made some pretty great strides in quality and reliability. But yeah I was a little scared too, based on Jaguar's previous track record. So far my experience has been very good. We'll have to see if it continues.

As far as being distinctive, well obviously that will always be a matter of personal opinion. In my opinion, Cadillacs have traditionally been very distinctive cars and for sure it was the styling that initally attracted me to the the '95 STS. I still think that it is one of the most beautiful cars of the last decade.

Unfortunately, I was really dissappointed in the styling of the latest STS model. To me, they just dont stand out. I can barely tell it fron a CTS. In fact I usually mistake them for CTS's from a distance until I look close. And I am a car guy, and a Cadillac guy. To me, GM missed the mark on the new STS, which is a shame, since they COULD have borrowed the styling cues from the Sixteen, which was such a beautiful showcar.

FWIW, I have never owned a car that gets comments from random people like this Jaguar. It's really amazing. The Cadillacs never came close. Of course, that's not why I buy a car, but to me it's a pretty good indicator that more people view the styling of this car as pleasing or distinctive.

Hopefully, Cadillac will come up with something more in tune with my tastes in the future. I wouldn't mind owning another Cadillac at all.

I had an old 88' Eldorado that I restored to running condition. The car had sat for 3 years without being run or started. Got the car going and it lasted me about 4 months until temperatures hit below zero, and the starter crapped out. When it started, it ran like a champ except for the incredibly loud cracked muffler.

This Eldorado made me fall in love with Caddys, that is why I purchased my 96 Deville.

Well my first Caddy (93 ETC) I sold like an idiot. My second (1993 Deville) Man it was beautiful, it got wrecked. Rear ended while Mom was driving it. My third(1994 SLS) I will not get rid of. I have a few problems I'm working on getting fixed and I will have it for a lifetime.

It takes quite a bit for folks in my family to "lose" their caddies. A few of them have been "re-located" throughout the years, like the '85 and '87 fleetwoods, a few devilles, and about four or five Sevilles in the '80s.

Not even the grave could take the Eldo from my grandfather, or visa versa. If all goes according to plan, his remains will be driven to his final resting place later this week in "The Red Barron." I don't know about the rest of you, but it's certainly the way that I'd like to head out.

As I've posted recently, I just inherrited his beautiful '92 4.9 Eldorado. We've also got an '01 DTS and a yellow '83 Coupe Deville "The Bananna" in the family. I don't plan on letting either get "lost", I'll just have to find a whole hell of allot of garage space in northern NJ to berth them all. smile.gif

my aunt/uncle have always owned caddy's. she said they will run forever. of course she always traded them in every 2-3 yrs and got a new one. I am too poor to think of moving up. my 96 STS has 99.9k miles now and I am not to eager to see it push over 100k. maybe I could find a lower mileage 96-97.

1985 Deville died at 238,000 miles due to loss of coolant. Water pump seals failed at full throttle at 75 mph. Engine overheated and blew head gaskets.

1993 Deville died at 298,300 miles due to fried tranny.

I voted under "transmission took a dump" although that isn't really the case. My input speed sensor appeared to be on the way out, so I sold the car to a dealer while the code was still able to be reset. Looking for another Seville now.
