67coupedeville
Well here is my dream, I have always wanted to build a hot-rod little 2WD shortbox Chevy truck, and for the powertrain I have always wanted to go with a Northstar Caddy motor. I have a 1980 Shortbox ready to be built and I found a 1998 Deville here that has 74,000 kms on it and $1600CDN. Perfect right? But it was rolled and the salvage sales guy said that the engine makes noise after it warms up. I have never started the car, but if the engine was run upside-down, would that cause ridiculous damage? Should I walk away or dig a little deeper? As always thanks in advance. Poobah
In general, when an automobile engine runs any way but right side up, the oil doesn't drain back into the pan, the oil pickup goes dry, and major damage hapens real quick. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
CadiKing
Spence, Dig a little deeper. You know how rock solid these N*'s are, see what is making the noise first.
navion
67coupedeville, Pull the oil filter and cut it open then check the element for metal flakes. If there is a bunch of metalic crud in the filter, say thanks, but no thanks, & walk away. Use a cutter designed for oil filters or a pipe cutter that will open big enough to place the filter in. If you hus a hack saw, then it is difficult to tell what is from the sawing & what is from the engine. Britt Britt
