Exhaust manifold

Hi

Here is an update on my exhaust manifold. Got it from a caddy recycler in Sacramento. Unit looks very good. Service from those guys just excellent. Talked to a nice guy named Tony. Cost were 125.00, Epa charge 2.00, Fedex to BC Canada 40.00, all US dollar. No extra cost at the canadian customs.See, if I can paste their URL below. Now I got a question for you guys. The Fel-Pro gasket has one side that has a brown paper backing on it, the other side is silver like coating

and not smoth. Which side goes to the engine side? I also ordered a nut and bolt kit in case I break something. Talked to a guy last night who runs a sprint car. He told me that brake fluid is very good to loosen up rusty nuts and bolts. Anybody

know anything about that? Scotty ,good to see you back.

Regards

runar, thanks!

Install the steel side toward the manifold and the fiber side toward the engine block. This allows the exhaust manifold to slide along the steel surface during expansion and contraction without damaging the gasket.

See this link from Federal Mongul/FELPRO:

I know this sounds extreme, but with the heads off, I have historically drilled the heads of my exhaust manifold bolts off, pull the exhaust manifolds off then remove the studs easily. I know this is NOT an option with the head in the car, but its a thought. The problem is that the bolt heads tend to shrink and you can't get a good grip on the bolt. Let us know how this works out, I have never head the brake fluid tip but I will try it in my parking brake adjustment screw this weekend... Mike
