True newbold1, I was thinking that when you got the check engine light on your trip how convenient it is to check the codes, I didn't know that the CTS didnt have that feature. Good Luck, Mike

Hi everyone! Just a quick update on my BMW. I am at just over 30K miles now and have had the car about 1 yr and a half. So far, it has been a decent car. Mechanically, I have had no problems with it. Cosmetically, the material on the interior passenger door pull has started to bubble up like it is pulling away from the handle itself. When I last had my car in for an oil change we showed this to the service tech and they ordered a new pull arm which will be replaced under warranty. This must be a manufacturing defect because my wife bought the same model / year car as I did and the very same thing happened to her on the driver's door. Her's has already been replaced under warranty. Her car is also just over 30K miles and this is the only problem she has experienced as well.

So far, with two of these cars, our experience has been really good. I don't really miss my '04 CTS. However, often I do find that I miss my 1996 SLS. That was a great car and I wish I had never traded it in on the CTS. I wish I still had it as a second car... sometimes, especially when traveling, I really could use the roominess and comfortable ride. The BMW is pretty comfortable to drive but it really has more of a sports car feel to it.

Anyway, just thought I would check in and report since it has been a long time.

As you might guess, I deleted my post. Probably for the best.

Thanks for the update, I have been looking at 96 to 99 STS's so your input is helpful.

Hey Bold...

Question:How much for the Caddy, and how much for the Beemer?

Answer:You get what you pay for.(But not always)

Sometimes you get a deal, sometimes you get a lemon. You just never know...

Remeber that the CTS is fairly new,and the Beemer isn't.Well, just for the little bends (touches around the lights and stuff).

One thing though:I drove many Beemers, and to say that It's just as somooth or smoother and almost as fast as an STS is nonsense.

An automatic Beemer wouldn'd stand a chance against an STS.

I'll tell you what though: I'll defenitely give you more credit than the Beemer since your leaving the site like a gentleman, and you took your Caddy's problems like a man.

I personally don't deal with the Caddy dealers myself, since their Managers are just out to make money, and that's why people are losing interest in their products.Period. Good luck with your new ride.Convertibles are nice...

I'm guessing your fluke Check Engine Light was because you took it up to redline a few times, threw it into a gear here or there, so the car said, like all these computer gadget ones, "hey you wanna play rough, we'll play rough" and it started adjusting things for performance, might have pulled the timing back? advanced it to much? certainly sounds like a "session" thing and since it hasn't come back it makes me believe that it was just adjusting itself since it was just off break-in and hadn't seen much spirited driving.

Could also be a pull or scheduled thing to get you into the dealership after you beat it up for the first time :)

The only thing I could say is drive it real hard again and see if it comes back, I don't know if it holds true for the beemer, but I know when I do a few WOT blasts with the Northstar then engine runs smoother at idle and becomes more fuel efficient.

The Green's Machines

1998 Deville - high mileage, keeps on going, custom cat-back exhaust

2003 Seville - stock low mileage goodness!

2004 Grand Prix GTP CompG - Smaller supercharger pulley, Ported Exhaust Manifolds, Dyno tune, etc

1998 Firebird Formula - 408 LQ9 Stroker motor swap and all sorts of go fast stuff

Listen, no hard feelings Randy W. I just wish I knew what I did to set you off so much. I'm really not the type of person that looks to flame others or to outright bash them. I wish you would give me a break and at least understand my point of view even if you don't happen to agree with it.

Newbold 1, I really didn't hunt you up. It was an accident, that I found you. I use BMWboard a lot to show people that BMW's are just cars like all the rest and have thier problems as well. I really wasn't after your person, just your choice in cars. I really hope you don't have major problems. Come back to the Caddy boards if something breaks so we can laugh at, er, I mean laugh with you! :D

I know that this is ancient history but I just found a post by Randy_W in reference to me on another board that had been made long after I thought we had "buried the hatchet". The link to that post is listed below. To this day I really don't know what I had done to make him so upset with me. So much in fact that he brought it up again 6 months later on another board. Am I crazy? Did anything I had to say in this thread really do anything to offend anyone? It seemed that most people understood my situation.

My situation with the CTS was specific to that one car. I had always been very happy with my previous 1996 SLS. In fact, I just bought my daughter a 1996 DeVille which I would think attests to the fact that I am not biased toward BMW, Cadillac, or any other brand.

Anyway, maybe it would be best for me to just let this go after so much time has past. It's just that since I just found that other post today it really hit a nerve and I just had to vent a little. :)

I wouldn't worry about it, you are starting to look feminine here,:lol: pretty much what I would expect from the driver of the Ultimate Driving Machine. JUST KIDDING.

You are sounding like you are feeling guilty. You don't need to prove anything here, the proof is in the pudding, you are driving the Ultimate Driving Machine. Its a shame you are not biased toward any brand, hell, loving the feel of a vehicle makes that daily commute a pleasure, when you are one with the vehicle. I myself marvel at how incredible my 96 Deville is everytime I get it on the open road in spite of its: oil leaking, needing a rear knuckle, engine mount, and having a cracked windshield . I am in awe, and I do believe I am BIAS, but, for a good reason.

Let this go, and if your daughter needs help with the 96 Deville, we would be glad to help HER...... Smart move putting your daughter in a big safe car

Not so much guilty as just plain mad. Sometimes I just don't understand people.

Don't get me wrong on the biased thing. I love driving my BMW. It's just that I loved my 96 SLS too and they are two very different cars. I just had a bad experience with my 04 CTS. That didn't sway me from buying the 96 DeVille for my daughter. It's big and safe and will probably last for eternity. :D It's amazing how many of these 10+ year old cars are on the road and still looking / running like they are just a couple years old.

Mike,

I know what you mean about marveling at how incredible the Cadillacs are on the open road.

I have been using my DTS for a service vehicle this last week. Have put well over 1000 miles on it in less than a week. My right knee is all swelled up and the DTS is more comfortable to drive than my van.

(Thats my story and I am sticking to it) :D:D:D

Drove over 350 miles Friday and made a 325 mile ROAD TRIP yesteray. (Saturday) BY MYSELF.

You know I love road trips. :D

Yesterday, on the 325 miles... averaged 24 mpg at an average speed of 79.6. :D

All of this while jusy easing along in supreme comfort, with the Air Conditioned seats on, the Massaging Lumbar rubbing my back and in almost total silence except for the BOSE Stereo playing my favorite XM radio stations. :D:D Sometime REALLY LOUD. I can only do that when I am by myself. :D

It don't get much better than that. :D

Had a nice lady in a new Nissan Murano, in a hurry, running FRONT DOOR... so that helps on making good time. :D

Sorry for the thread hijack... just had to comment on how great our Cadillacs are.

I always refer to those types of drivers as "bear bait" as they always seem to attract a bear (cop)...

Newbold, I see that Randy_W got himself banned over @ the Cadillac Owners Group. This post kind of outlines the train of thought.

Just like cars, every once in a while you come up with a lemon.

Re: Does anyone here actually like Cadillac?

Night Wolf, I've been saying that for a long time. It's one thing to have true fans and owners talk about the good and bad points, but it sucks to have a bunch of trolls as members, that only hang around to use every chance to bad mouth GM and Cadillac. We could all rattle off their user names like a who's who of pains in the *smurf*. Some are very young while others should know better.

As a side note, there was one guy on here that used every chance to bash Caddy, while singing the praises of BMW at every turn. I accidentally found him on a BMW forum while looking for info, one day. I started giving him a dose of his own crap by posting threads about recalls and repair costs about his BMW model. In other words I was Troll on his forum. We soon came to an agreement, I never go to his forum and he never comes here anymore.

Britt, they banned him for that? For defending GM and Cadillac on a Cadillac board? Could someone explain to me what was wrong with that post that got him banned? Makes no sense. Bruce, please don't ban me!

Mike,

I don't think that this is the post that got him banned. It is several years old. There are a lot of other posts after this one. I just used this one because he stated that he was a troll on the other board.

I hadn't even noticed that he had been banned. I guess he must have been problematic for a lot of other people and the moderator to have that happen to him. Well, I am over it, I just needed to vent a little. :)

Well we will see you soon on the 96 Deville. If you just bought it, did you change the coolant first thing, or do you have the service records?

Randy frequents this board also, he was last here in early June. I had not realized that this spat continued, :fighting0030:

You've seen my other recent posts so now you know much of what's been done. :D We had a hard time finding something in our price range that didn't look really rough. We found this car at a used car lot that sells mostly older luxury cars. Most of them were in the $10K+ range but this one was just over $3K sitting near the back of the lot. It was spotless clean but just had the really high mileage. My budget was about $5K - $6K so we took it knowing that it may need some work but we had the money to take care of it. There were no service records with the car. I wish there were. I always keep mine.

At this point, we've spent the difference on the case half seals and other things I was able to do myself. Hopefully, we're pretty close now to having a nice looking car that is in decent mechanical shape too.

Oh, yes, the coolant has been replaced. Only thing now is to figure out a problem with the A/C. But, I am not too worried about it because if it is going to be a big job to correct then it can just wait for now. For a teenager's first car a good working A/C is a luxury.
