Ed Fenwick
My 4.9 cooling system looses maybe 1.5-2 quarts of coolant if the temp gets above 215 when driving. Three different shops have not been able to find any signs of a leak. There is no smoke on startup, nothing in the oil, nothing in the teans fluid. I can't find it!!! The question that I have for y'all is, how much Bars Leak and pellets can I put in the system before making things worse for the engine. I don't know what else to do for it. Tks Ed

Tks Ed Another possibility are cracks on the end tanks of the radiator (they are both plastic). The cracks may be tiny but will expand as the coolant heats up. Watch for dried coolant traces on the tanks particularly on the side close to the grill. Some hose connections and the heater valve (the "T") may start leaking at high RPMs. Just start the car, open the hood increase the RPM manually to some 2000 and watch potential areas for fountains of coolant. Ed Fenwick
Thanks guys, The shops have put a pressure tester on but I don't think they left it for several hours. The shop today said there was no signs of a leak. I would have seen it if it were on the radiator tank. There would be stains in the area. These were all auto repair shops, tomorrow I will take it to a radiator shop. If they can't find anything, then I will put in a dozen tablets and some bars leak and pray. DFBonnett
Just a shot in the dark, but have you checked the overflow hose that goes from the rad to the overflow tank? It might blowing coolant out through a hole when hot and sucking air back in when cold. FWIW YMMV
Ed Fenwick
I wish it were the overflow tube. The radiator shop today showed me exaust gasses in the coolant. It is the head gaskett. The dealer wants $1800. to replace them. The car is worth maybe $4k, I will look for less expensive shops. Today I drained the coolant, added 15 pellets and a bottle of coolant stopleak the the GM parts place had. Tomorrow I will drive the freeway from one end of the Island to the other to get the stuff circulating. ' hope that it works. Thanks for your help and info, I'll get back to you later Ed
ByStorm
Are those pellets needed every time the coolant is changed or just when you suspect a leak? Thanks Peace...
