I thoroughly enjoy WOT's but I try to do them only when there aren't a lot of other cars and/or pedestrians around. I don't want to get known around town as, "That maniac in the dark green Eldo." Poobah Posted May 2, 2005 Report Share Posted May 2, 2005 What is a "wot" A WOT is a Wide Open Throttle acceleration. The way I do it is from a stop I ease the gas pedal all the way to the floor. (If you slam it down, you'll break traction and engage the traction control.) I just run'er up in first gear to the red line shift point at about 6000 RPM. When she shifts, I just back off the gas and I'll be going 'round about 50 MPH. Be prepared for a little torque steer about half way up. The car will want to wander a little off course due to the power you're putting to the front wheels. Doing this once or twice a week helps keep the carbon burned out of the combustion chambers. If your Northstar has been driven lazily for a long time, you'll get some clouds of black smoke the first couple of times you do it. This doesn't hurt anything, it's just the crud being cleaned out. STYES Posted May 3, 2005 Report Share Posted May 3, 2005 As long as you maintain the car per the forum. you simply can NOT blow up that engine by driving it hard. Have you had your car for 50-60 thousand miles? If so, you do know that the engine "pulls" just as hard with the miles you have than when it was low mileage. I've never serviced a properly maintained NS that felt tired. In case you are not privy to the maintenance basics, I will list a few. Keep the oil filled to capacity. I change mine at 3/3000 regardless of what others here will tell you. Never flush the coolant, only drain and change. Use the pellets/bars leak powder per the forum. Your frequent WOT's cover the other basic, but you do know how to do them? If you drive as hard as you claim, you might create a problem with input shaft speed sensor, located in the trans, especially in extreme high temperature conditions.
