IaBoy
I bought a new nice mahogany shifter knob to replace the leather one on my 02 SLS. Can anyone tell me how to take off the old one and install the new one. Actually I bought two if these mahogany knobs, so if anyone else need (or wants) one let me know. They are brand new and nice. Logan
Yank it straight up. Hard and fast. It just pops off. Dadillac
IaBoy Hopefully your shifter change goes much easier than mine went. I did the same thing, changed the leather one, for the wood knob. I could not get mine to release no matter what. I am not a weak man. I pulled like nobody's business. The veins in my head seemed ready to explode. Alas, you are supposed to be able to just pull the knob straight up, with a fast, hard pull. Installation of the new one is just push down. I had to cut my old one off. I certainly hope you do not have to go through the same thing. Don "Modern warriors saddle iron horses of chrome." maremrak
IaBoy, where did you buy your shifter knob? I need one for my 1995 STS. Do you know are they all fit, or they are different year by year. IaBoy
Maremrak... These knobs will not fit your 95 STS. These are for the 98-04 SLS/STS. It does not have a button on it like the older ones. It will also fit a 00-04 DTS. Here is a picture. Steve

Logan
From the 2002 service manual..... Important Detaching the shift control knob from the shift lever may require a large amount of physical effort. Do not twist the shift control knob while pulling. Firmly grasp the shift control knob. Pull straight up to detach from the shift lever. I have never seen a wood shifter for a '95. IaBoy
Thanks Logan... I hope I have enough physical effort! By the way.. the brake light strip I bought from you almost 3 years ago for my 98 SLS has worked perfectly and still continues to work even though my car was totalled by a head on collision with a deer Steve
IaBoy
Does anyone know if this knob will work on a 91 STS? I know it won't work on the ones that have the button on the shift knob, but I have a person that is interested in the extra one I have for sale. He says his knob looks just like mine. I just don't want to sell it to someone that it won't work on their car. Steve
