have put 2000 miles on my 95 sls. problems encountered in that time include cruise control which seems to be engaged at 45 mph. it stays there with no throttle from me. can watch the rpms stay steady. i live in the high mountains and snow gets in the spokes of the rims all the time and throws the balance off. guess theres nothing to do for that but it's a problem. ran it up to 115 mph today coming to work and it cut off like i'd cut the key off. is that normal? only turning about 5500 rpm. stupid hidden wipers are a real problem with snow collection. dash info sez check oil level every time i start it up. oil is not low. is that normal?

love my car and want to know more about it. passenger seat electrics quit working right after purchase. can't believe all functions are gone. checked fuses and that's not the problem. anybody encounter this one/ thanks for listening

Let's go one-by-one here:

1) So the engine stays at a steady speed without throttle from you. This is obviously with the cruise control OFF, right? I just want to get your problem straight.

2) Your SLS is speed-limited to 112 mph, give or take. You got it to 115 mph. Completely normal. All SLS cars are limited to that, because S-rated tires were the only tire option for the SLS when new. Even if you have Z-rated tires on it now, the limiter is still 112 mph. Yours is a '95? I think they have chips for cars up to 1995 that can remove the limiter.

3) Not much you can do about the hidden wipers, except to clear the snow before you use them. You shouldn't be using the wipers to clear snow anyway...it puts a lot of load on the wiper motor. I like the hidden wipers -- they're only visible when you actually need them. That's a classy feature that most new cars don't have today...not even the newer Cadillacs. It's a little more complicated to design probably, because you have to have separate "stops" for the "park" position and for the "intermittent rest" position, but it's worth it, in my opinion.

Over the years, the Cadillacs have started to become "decontented". All the nice little details are missing. Like the hidden wipers that most all GMs used to have. The trunk pull-down is gone. Things like that. But that's probably the subject of a different thread.

4) Your oil level sensor is probably bad. It's an easy part to replace. It's located on the oil pan, near the front of the engine, near the oil filter I believe.

5) Not sure what to tell you on the passenger seat electronics. If all the fuses are okay, it sounds like a loose connection, or maybe even a shorted wire. It sure sounds like a wiring problem, seeing as the whole thing went out at once, instead of a problem with the motors in the seat.
