Another part of the fake DTS

Finally found a DTS front bumper for the fake DTS. The base Deville bumpers are easy to find.......the DTS with fogs is really hard to find.

Hard to believe I found the DTS bumper for $50.

Whats that Johnny Cash song about the Cadillac assembly line parts?

I always how Johnny got that cast iron Caddy engine home in his lunch box! :lol:

I'll bet that song had ALL the auto makers checking lunch boxes on the way out. When I worked in a munitions plant they would occasionally line every one up and check lunch boxes at quitting time. Tended to irritate the hourly workers. (But the right to search was in the contract.)

The transmission was a '53

And the motor turned out to be a '73

And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone

So we drilled it out so that it would fit

And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit

We had that engine runnin' just like a song

Now the headlight' was another sight

We had two on the left and one on the right

But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on

The back end looked kinda funny too

But we put it together and when we got thru

Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin

About that time my wife walked out

And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts

But she opened the door and said "Honey, take me for a spin"

So we drove up town just to get the tags

And I headed her right on down main drag

I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around

But up there at the court house they didn't laugh

Still dont have the foglamps. But I can get those online new for about $50 each.

The bumper is actually out of North or South Carolina. Some guy on eBay had a stack of them.

I dont think he knows what he has.......the DTS ones are extremely hard to find used and damage free.

His price was so cheap I was suspicious.....too cheap. He called with the tracking # and then called me again Saturday morning to see if it had come in. Huh? So anyway, I ran up to DHL freight (like....3 miles away....really) on Saturday and picked it up. Took about an hour to put it on.

Of course I need to paint it. I also have the DTS front plate cover.

I worked for Lockheed Aircraft many years ago. Employees always had to open their lunch boxes and thermos bottles and show them to the guard at the gate on the way out. (I always brought my lunch in a paper bag.)

You know, I kind of like that two-tone look, especially silver as a lower body color. I'd be half-inclined to paint the rest of the car that way...burgundy upper, silver lower.

I've always been a sucker for a two-tone paint job with silver as the lower color...ever since the '83 Hurst/Olds and the '85-'87 442 cars.

Hmmmm.....the fogs......$$$$$

I had one site saved....new fogs for $50. Suspected misprint....site has been since updated with the new/correct price.

Several options. I have the passenger side fog lamp here. Just need a drivers side.

So how much has the transformation cost versus the old fashioned "buy the car you want" route? Just curious. I do realize the joy of modifying ones car so i understand that aspect. Other than that the DTS's cant be that much more than the DHS or Deville.

It will be easier to paint the bumper up and off the ground. Its bigger then it looks. Lots of chances of scratching it etc trying to install it after painting.

As for the modifying angle......

In the Nashville area, currently base Devilles are roughly $14-16K, where a real DTS is listed as $22-24 k used. So your talking a solid $8-9 K difference.

Wheels, paint, emblems, and bumper....so far may be $1500 in mods. Of course I stole the DTS wheels, ask Cardio-doc. Found them via a misprinted eBay auction with 3 minutes left to go.....for $600. Then sold the old wheels for $400.

Plus there is some satisfaction that comes from trying to do this on the cheap. The current fake DTS is way nicer then your standard Deville.

In most cases I agree, its typically cheaper to buy the real car you want.

I actually have a 2 night vision grilles here....

I personally found the DHS black grille with emblem to be the best choice. I perfer the black/gray DHS grille over the body color DTS one.

It is a night vision version emblem blocking off the hole stamped in the hood for the base Deville hood emblem/ornament.

Here is a pic of the blocked off hood ornament hole.

Made a round plate from a scrapped rear panel of the same color and 3M tape. The emblems are the gray DTS versions.
