Logan
Hmmm.....started having rough hunting idle yesterday......check engine lamp on today. Code Po171 and 174 stored. Tech 2 clearly shows car is lean at idle. Spraying carb cleaner around I found the leak. Its leaking at the intake rubber boot. See picture. Whats leaking is around #2..... I'll see if Cadillac has the part in the morning. nsleak.TIF Logan Diagnostic LLC www.airbagcrash.com www.ledfix.com www.ledfix.com/yukontaillightrepair.html www.ledfix.com/ledreplacements.html www.ledfix.com/j42385toolrental.html

Logan
Sure enough.....the rubber coupler has a crack. In the picture the green pen is propping it open slightly. Hunting idle, meaning 600 to 1000 rpm and back? That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't recall seing one on my car but I have to admit I never looked very close. I just assumed the TB was bolted to the manifold like the 3800 on my wifes Bonneville.
Logan
Slow idle.....575 to 650 flucuation. You could feel it in gear. Friday the service lamp came on. Codes showed lean O2 both banks. To be honest, at first I thought it was bad gas. Problem started about a mile after putting some gas in. This coupler is on the newer version N*. Dont know if the older ones have it. Its kind of strange it failed. It just sits there with no load on it. cdictas
Logan, Great post! What year is the vehicle? How long did it take you to do the job? Are there intake gaskets that need to replaced? Did you clean out the hydro-carbon deposits in the intake? Chuck
cdictas
Logan, How long did it take you to remove the intake manifold? Are there intake gaskets that need to replaced? I think I'll be replacing my starter in my 99 at some point in time, so I'm trying to get a handle on how long it will take. Thanks, Chuck

Logan
Yes there are intake gaskets. They are reusable. They kind of stay with the intake. Almost 3 year old post. My original picture is long gone. What do you have.. a 300g hard drive? When I see a photo that illustrates an unusual circumstance, I save it. In this instance, its on my desktop but my desktop is not operational. When Frank from Germany was having problems I posted your photo in his thread and retrieved it from that thread. The sick thing is how I find what I am looking for, I think that my thought process if very non linear, here is how I found it >> I have continually referred to that rubber collar that you found cracked as a COLLAR..... SO, I searched under Scotty and BBF for COLLAR and walla, there was the photo! I have been told that I can find anything, its a challange to me...
