87 Eldorado

Recommended Posts

We just purchased an 87 Eldorado. There was no appearance of an oil leak where she was sitting before we bought it but after driving it home we had one. The car was sitting on the road and we noticed a huge puddle of oil under it. Moved the car a bit and withing a minute or 2 another puddle of oil appeared. The oil was clean. There are no noises coming from the engine and she drove fine. Could this be a rear main seal or oil pan gasket? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This can be a lot of things, its difficult to diagnose here. A $0.05 O-Ring on the oil cooler (assuming there is one) or the oil filter adapter, will leak like mad. It could be a loose oil filter even, if it is leaking that bad, it should be easy to locate it see if you can see where it's coming from....

We did a leak test with dye and found out that it is leaking from one corner of the oil pan. We have replaced the oil pan gasket and it is still leaking from one corner. We have also replaced the o-ring on the oil return tube. It appears that the crankcase is building up pressure. Does anyone have any ideas? Sure hate to have to send this car away. Thanks everyone.

There is a correct way to do the oil pan, you should get a hold of the service manual, in some instances a bead of RTV is required at the corners....

We did put RTV on when we replaced the oil pan gasket. The strange thing is it only leaks on one corner of the oil pan. Could the pan maybe be slightly bent at that corner causing it? I'm really at a lose right now. We also replaced the PCV. Any other ideas on the oil leak or the pressurized crankcase please let me know. Thanks again.
