On the way to Zoomba today Ann's ATS Premium 2L showed Stabilitrak error, check engine, speed limited to 40 mph, and ran rough.

She finished exercise, then took an Uber home.  When I was available we went back; the ATS would not start, it just cranked over repeatedly.  I called Crest and we discussed which tow service to use.   I tried it one more time, and it started, so I crept toward Crest at 40mph.  Along the way, along the highway, it died in an odd way  -- the engine stopped but it was as if the car "didn't realize" the engine was dead.  I rolled into an undeveloped exit along the highway, and Ann caught up in the ATS-V.  After consulting with the dealer and waiting a while, the ATS restarted.

I got to the very last hill before the dealership, and the engine died again.  Luckily I had enough momentum to get up the hill, into the exit, and roll all the way down and into the service bay at Crest, all with the engine dead.  It was an epic glide.

We got an XT5 as a loaner, and Crest will need some time to diagnose and let us know what the story is.

High pressure fuel pump, replace lines to fuel pump (not reusable), sensor, hose $2190

fuel service (cleaning) $439

oil change

So good that it is not an engine but pricey

WOW.  Is it 5 model years old?, how many miles?  Out of warranty?

That is a big number, for a car coming off warranty.

Opps, I saw 2016 on your profile, I forgot you had 2.   I guess it sounds expensive, but it was the dealer who did the work, and while they tend to be expensive, at least they know the car well, have done it before, pay attention to bulletins, and have the experience to fix it given the new DI high pressure design.   Plus it sounds like they might have done the intake valve clean up.

Does it run better than it did?

just into the shop today.  My wife was already shopping newer cars so although pricey this repair is certainly less out of pocket than a lighly used XT4 Premium Luxury.

She only has 25k miles or something on it so hopefully not a trend we see in high pressure fuel pump failures.
