Brad
Rare indeed! A representative of the beginning of the design and technology phase. Not sure what year it is though, they all kind of looked the same to me. OynxSTS
It's a Northstar so it would be a '93. Definately a '93 you can tell several ways. The front air dam with the "extra" lip that's stock '93 only. "One piece" side glass, wheels and seats also unique to this year... Sigh.. I miss mine so.. What year did the stop making them? I guess maybe you've never been up close to , been in or driven one? They're little knockouts IMO. Beautiful Italian body lines by Pinanfarina, killer interior, great suspension and drive train especially the last year ('93) with the Northstar. I've always wanted one.. Who knows? 556393
THE ALLANTE WEIGHTS A LITTLE OVER 3700 LBS AND THEY ARE REALLY FUN TO DRIVE. THEY ALSO DO NOT HAVE A SPEED LIMITER. MY `93 IS VERY NOTICIBLE FASTER THAN MY `98 ETC , PROBABLY DUE TO THE WEIGHT THING. CADILLAC FLEW THE BODIES OVER FROM ITALY IN SPECIALLY DESIGNED 747`S AND PUT THEM TOGETHER WITH THE DRIVETRAINS IN MICHIGAN. DURING THE RUN OF CARS PRODUCE, CADILLAC SOLD ABOUT 20,400 AND CHANGE. THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 203 MORE CARS PRODUCED AFTER MY CAR WAS MADE IN JUNE OF `93. THEY STOPPED PRODUCTION ON JULY 15 `93. COME ON SUMMER!

an01sts
Yenko asked what was so special about them? Despite the fact that it was the Cadillac technician's nightmare, I loved the things. The stationary vent paid about 1.1 warranty, and I did them in about .75. Anyone who does GM warranty can attest that it's petty tough to run 1 to 1 and, more often, GM ensures it gyps its technicians on warranty rates. The part I loved most about the Allante was the windsheild. It paid about 5.5, and I could do those in about 1.3 to 1.5. So @ $16.50 an hour, these cars were anythhing but a nightmare when they came to my stall. I also had Allantes farmed out to me from other dealerships, so I had an unfair advantage because of the Allante volume, at least 2 to 3 per week. The reason that a lot of windsheilds were farmed out to me was that it w/s was a major tough install and took quite a lot of talent to get the glued-in-place weatherstips to align properly, as to cosmetic appearance, let alone wind and water sealing. Also, the cars were almost impossible to install windsheilds without making at least a small nick in the paint, and most installers usually ended up with serious paint scratches. My destruction rate was about 1 out of 7 with micro nicks to slight hairline scratches in the clear. We were sticklers about pointing out damage made to customer's cars during repairs. Most of this damage, however, wasn't pointed out the customers with about 1 out of 20 customer complaint. Major scratches--well I called 'em major scratches--happened about 1 out of 60 to 75, and about 1 out of 5 customers insisted on paint repair. In all fairness, these cars were major peices of crap. Actually, there weren't as much of a pos; rather, it was a car that wasn't designed to wear the Cadillac logo. The enginering was some of the most retarded in the industry, the reason behind the latent damage with windsheild install. The damned things leaked whereever there was a weatherstrip. Even though my leakfree repairs were a reflection of my craftsmanship, I must be honest and point out that there was some luck factor coming into play. There were many Allantes and technicians who were married during the warranty peroid. These marriages didn't set well with the owners becasue Allante owners were major anal. (I'm major anal too, so I was an excellent technician for servicing such cliental. The point is that many Allante customers were more anal than I am, making them pure assholes who believed that the world should revolve around them.) With this type of cliental base, the Allante wasn't a good car, because the Allante was designed for what would be considred average car quality. Even though the engineering behind the car--offering a most generous leeway--followed average car design, the price tag didn't reflect the average car and it didn't attract the average car clientel, probally the reason Cadillac decided to drop the line. ted tcb
Yenko .... here's a quote taken from the 1988 press release for the Allante ... it truly was an ambitious project which never came together as intended ... I remember Car and Driver running the Allante against the Merc 560SL roadster ... the Allante was reviewed as being technically cutting edge, while the Merc was the last of an old design. Here's Cadillac's pitch on the car, circa 1988 "Unlike any ultra-luxury roadster that has come before it, here is the limited production Cadillac Allanté. Using premium german steel, a unique Swiss alloy and exterior trim from France, Italian artisans handcraft its coachwork at the studios of Pininfarina, designer for appointment to Ferrari and Rolls Royce. Then, specially modified 747s transport the sculptured bodies to a specially-built Cadillac facility in North America. After final drive train assembly, every Allanté undergoes a 40 km (25-mile) test track evaluation, unique to Cadillac. Two teams of highly trained technicians, after testing procedure, must sign off each vehicle with their own signature. Further proof of Cadillac's commitment to Allanté's integrity. European road manners, Cadillac comfort, convenience and front-wheel drive. There's spirited power in the exclusive high output V8 with Sequential-Port Fuel Injection, precise -- never harsh -- handling. Impressive control with the Bosch III Anti-Lock Braking System. Allanté brings a new concept to two-passenger automobiles: Cadillac comfort. Defying the traditional space constraints of a copupe/roadster, its pass-through trunk even accepts skis with a total of 453 litres (16 cu. ft.) of space. Hand-fitted Italian leather covers the Recaro seat (with new lower headrests) featuring driver and passenger ten-way electric power. A memory function on the driver's side "rmembers" two preferred seating positions. In strumentation is a unique blend of electronic Liquid Crystal Display and analogue dials. Power equipment runs the full gauntlet. There are simply no extra cost options. The 7 year / 160,000 kilometere (100,000 mile) Allanté Limited Warranty is designed to make you the most cared-for owner in the world." 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl

Guarcz03
My Father Has 3 Allante's (a Silver 87 with 51,000 miles, a White 91 with 35,000miles and a Red 93 Hardtop with 23,000 miles). He Let me Drive the 93 before he decided to "retire" it. and i can honestly say i didnt want to get out of the Drivers Sit. He is the Original owner of the 91 and 93 the 87 he bought used for 4,000 2 years ago from an old lady. In Now Way Do i Think Allantes are Pieces of Crap.MY Father Has a Eye for out of the ordinary Cars and he Just Got a Good Deal on a 2004 XLR and is Already thinking about Trading it in for the XLR-V when they come out but he Dosn't like the Hood on the V
556393
MY PIECE OF CRAP `93 IS BUILT BETTER THAN MY MADE IN THE USA `98 ETC. THE BODY PANEL SEAMS ARE TIGHTER AND THE TRUNK IS FINSHED OFF VERY NICELY. THE ETC`S TRUNK LOOKS LIKE CRAP. I DO LIKE MY `98 . EVERYONE WHO DOESN`T LIKE THE ALLANTE PROBABLY HAS NEVER DRIVEN A NORTHSTAR POWERED ALLANTE. BECAUSE THE ALLANTE IS LIGHTER THAN MY ELDORADO OR PEOPLES SEVILLES, THE CAR IS QUICKER THAN MY ETC.WHEN WE PASS SLOW DRIVERS IN OUR OTHER CADDIES, ITS FAST BUT, THE ALLANTE DOES IT QUICKER. BY THE WAY, ALL THE STEEL IN THE BODY HAS BEEN GALVENIZED ON BOTH SIDES. I BET IN TIME PEOPLE WON`T LIKE THE XLR EITHER. AS FAR AS FINDING PARTS... NOT MUCH WORSE THAN FINDING PARTS FOR MY `63 CADILLAC COOPDABILL. CADILLACISM IS A DISEASE.
