I would take it out and use a wire brush on it. I cleaned the pindle from the inside with 22 caliber Hobbes rifle cleaning round steel and brass brushes from the open hole while pushing in and turning the pindle with a T wrench. Here is a photo after it is cleaned. Tap it throughout the cleaning process you will be surprised how much dust and dirt comes out, avoid breathing the dust and wash your hands. Try to avoid using any solvents. When it is dirty it sticks.. Mike
