Where did you buy the battery?

Check the trouble codes and report them here.  Report all P codes here

Some aftermarket alternators will not work correctly

Interstate battery. Had it checked after replacing battery and alternator and everything was normal. Cleared codes already so can’t remember what they was but not showing any codes now just showing battery not charging and battery light is on ???  Found this sight after cleared codes

OPPs, I goofed,.I meant where did you buy the alternator.  We only recommend ac delco, many of the 'lifetime' alternators have a glitch in the regulator that throws a code creating a no charge condition.

If the message is up and light is on, you should have a code, check again

I am not saying the alternator is bad till you check the codes.  But it is a possibility.  We are looking for a code related to the alternators L terminal,

As additional support see this thread

I suspect defective or incompatible alternator also. I once had a bad experience with a lifetime alternator I put on from AutoZone on one of my Eldorados. They just don’t do a good job building those anymore...That one seized up actually tearing up the belts!

AC Delco is probably the way to go here and would be more reasonable through rockauto.com with the 5% discount if you can wait for shipping.

It will be challenging the first time but it will get easier.  You do know there is an inspection removable door behind the right front wheel right?  It allows easier access.

I always put a 1/4" piece of plywood in front of the radiator to protect it from getting damaged by accident

Did you replace the pigtail to the alternator? I know you said you replaced a plug.

ACDELCO PT2297

I have run into this enough times.

Not the big cable but the wide plug. There should still be a repair harness for that.

They are common to failing near the plug to the alternator itself.

Also ohm the main cable from the battery to the alternator. I have had one fail inside the cable.

Nothing is worse than replacing a alternator only to find it was that pigtail. Has happened to me

I may be mistaken but in his first post he stated that he replaced the plug.

I trust the diagnostic system.  Usually when you get a message there is an associated code.  How are you checking codes?, through the dash?, or with a reader?

Ok, I would have liked to see a code.  It could be that the alternator is ok in terms of the glitch we speak of above but it has a problem like a blown diode or stuck brushes.  Either way, it must be eliminated as a cause.
