Sano Posted March 30, 2019 Report Share Posted March 30, 2019 I'm trying to swap a ld8 from a 2000 Eldorado esc into my 2002 etc with a l37. I've been looking around forums and have been seeing mixed answers. If I swap the ld8 into my ETC will I experience any issues with the computer acting up? I've been seeing that the drive ratio is different and the computer would have to be calibrated for the ld8? How would I go about doing that? BodybyFisher Posted March 31, 2019 Report Share Posted March 31, 2019 You are swapping the engine or transmission? You TAG, engine swap. So I assume you are swapping ENGINES. The ENGINE has nothing to do with the final drive ratio. Are you swapping the tranny also? I believe the difference between these 2 engines is the intake cams. If you swap the intake cams you should be fine. If you do NOT change the CAMs you will get a code and it will probably run poorly. Know what you are doing if you attempt to change the CAMs, I would say its a 3.5 out of 5 difficulty level for most requiring a few special tools and specific knowledge. The transmissions have different final drive ratios and using the wrong tranny will set a ratio code. If you are speaking about swapping the tranny's, might contact Jake at Northstar Performance to see if the final drive ratio is something he can modify. Luke Posted April 3, 2019 Report Share Posted April 3, 2019 I actually had a discussion with “the guru” about this years ago. I had a 93 or 94 STS at the time and was considering putting an SLS engine in the car. He actually told me the computer would run the engine fine as the fueling curves were very similar.
