sonjaab
Yes, the blend door operates freely when unhooked from the accuator. Cold air at one stop and warm at the other. So I figure screw it and Im gonna replace the heater core. Its easy to get to and remove. The only PIA is the hoses. Only $28 bucks shipped from rock auto. sonjaab
SUCCESS ! With a hint on how to find the hidden screws holding the bottom of the dash panel/bezel from MCmarto on another forum on how to remove the small wood grain piece below the steering column and find the 2 hidden screws and release the panel/bezel piece. You just pry up from the bottom of the piece to release the clips. I replaced the climate control unit and now have a temp. display and full functions! Reassembled dash and happy as a clam! My Factory service manual will prob. arrive tomorrow! LOL! Thanks to all for your help! BTW heat still weak yet my thermometer sez 80 degrees coming out of the vents! Sure dont feel like 80! rockfangd
I would not do anything until you get the display working. I am pretty sure it defaults when there is a problem. And if it does I am not sure what the temp would be. Have you tried manually holding the blend door one way or the other to see if it changes? Update 1/9 Excellent. You are getting somewhere. Here is what I suggest you do now. Disconnect the battery for 1 minute reconnect battery Turn ignition to ON position but do not start it. Do not touch anything for 1 full minute. This will allow the actuators to run their full cycle and calibrate them. Once that is done see what happens. sonjaab
I guess Im gonna have to swap out the heater core. Heat still weak and I suppose if Im gonna have to flush it I might as well swap the core out. Any pointers? sonjaab
Well finally replaced the heater core! Yes, the hoses were a PIA to remove and install on new core. Took a few hours of screwing around to complete the install. Got the new core from Rock Auto for less than $30 bucks. New core was aluminum as the GM factory core was brass? with plastic tanks. Finally got excellent heat ! Sorry no pics................. sonjaab
BTW: The antifreeze in the car is yellow. Any idea what brand it is? Or can I mix in some green in it to fill. Its not Dex-Cool! Quote 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
rockfangd
Yellow.. I wonder if someone put some kind of universal coolant in. Good to flush it out anyway. Glad you got good heat. sonjaab
Prestone is the yellow antifreeze I need to top off my tank from my recent heater core replacement. Heat cranks now and is welcome in this frigid NY winter weather! Car runs good thru the snow from recent blizzards we have had here! NO starting issues either! rockfangd
Those era Caddys are such tanks. My 90s ones are as well. I dont worry about things breaking in the cold like all of these newer plastic parts. I can go all day. sonjaab
Well..........I guess my $35 used climate control is failing. This one will go dark with no functions and at times come alive after I shut off ignition and open the door then restart. So my local pic a part yard has 2 Devilles . I need the CCC and dark blue screw covers for the roof grab handles. Maybe grab the 2 front door panels/armrests too. sonjaab
Well its been a couple years and the the old girl is running fine! BUT>>>>>> NO heat again! I guess this used Climate Control unit has failed again! Has display but no fan action. Temp. door IS operating and can hear vent doors moving. The a/c comp. dont engage when in defrost or the fan wont blow. I can hear it running slowly as usual. (common on GM a/c equipped car of these years so the fan is good) I do have a couple dead units. Anybody know of a rebuilder ? Gotta get it in the garage to un-thaw as it sonowin n blowin in snowy NY> Will post results!
