Will a 1967 Eldorado 429 motor fit in a 1967 Cadillac deville

Bobbybyfisher. You said 472? ?

I am NOT sure what you mean.

The new TurboHydramatic FWD transmission that fit the 1968 472 came out in 1967.

In order for the 429 to fit the new tranny bell housing, an adapter was used, do you understand?  So, if you had a 67 Eldo with the 68 tranny, it would be easy to swap a 472 into the 67 but that isn't your circumstance.

Removing the adapter, should allow it to fit the TH400

Please post questions as questions not doubts or confusion. Ask for clarification.  This is a difficult medium for effective communication especially on a smart phone where being concise is best to avoid fat fingering spelling errors.

750 quadrajet... you can swap oil pan if its an issue.

Yes you were correct barczy01, the research I did late last night disclosed that the 429 in a FWD configuration may have a different oil pan, and using the pan for the RWD 429 solves that.

I am searching for one now

Nope, this is complex stuff to detail in short paragraphs.  Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I am looking for more information for you, will advise.

interesting quote here:

Front wheel drive

The TH425 front-drive automatic transaxle also fits these engines as used in the Eldorado, although a special dual-sump oil pan and pickup are used with these transmissions due to the required half shaft clearance. Any RWD engine can be converted to FWD and vice versa if the proper oil pan and pickup are used, although two of the main cap bolts must be removed and swapped for studs with standoffs to mount the pickup bracket.

But again, I keep thinking that the powertrain in the 67 Deville will have most of the swap parts needed.

My impression is the 65-67 had a 'new' transmission bolt pattern, and the engine came with an adapter ring to work with the stock 'new' transmission.  However, both cars are 67 so again should be similar.

  • 2 weeks later...

The bad engine comes out, swap oil pans if new crate engine even has an oil pan. install new oil pump and pickup tube. The transmission bolt pattern should be the same.

THERE IS ALWAYS ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB RIGHT - THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB AGAIN !!!
