Bruce Nunnally
I agree, but consider the Eldorado was front wheel drive in 67. The engine was still longitudinal in that application, alongside the tranny. But I suppose the bracketry and how the engine mates to transmission would vary from Deville. I think you will want pieces from both to make it work. Bruce 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube
barczy01
I believe the oil pan on the eldo will be different being its a front wheel drive car.

BodybyFisher
I would be stunned if there were any difference between the two engines. Bruce and barczy01 have cast a doubt though, so now I need to rethink. I had a 74 which is basically the same setup. As Bruce noted the transmission sat alongside the engine and it was driven by a stout chain. I still believe the engines will be identical and believe your tranny will bolt right up to it. My neighbor had a pristine 67 Eldorado and he had 2 429s and a tranny in his garage. I think if there were a difference I should have heard about it. I need to visit the library later and will pull a few manuals and see what I can find. I also have a friend in a scrap yard who has an excellent reference for compatibility, maybe he can shed some light. I myself had 3 429s, what an amazing engine Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

I think your intuition in right on the engine but it will not be a direct powertrain (engine+transm) swap one will need part of this and that. Oh yes, the FWD tranny can NOT be used, I believe the tranny was a TH400, with a constant velocity drive shaft. BodybyFisher
Ok, I just checked with a good friend at Action Scrap yards, Scott, the 65 to 67 429 is the same engine regardless of whether it is a coupe, sedan or eldo. Ill do some more research at the library when I get there and post anything I can find. What carburetor is on that 429?, it will probably be a Rochester Quadrajet, the only carburetor I like better than the Carter AFB. Both were a lot of fun to rebuild, miss those days. The 67's used an adapter to fit the 429 to the 'new' transmission bell so removing the adapter would let you bolt the 472 to a 67 trans.
